You are 25 years old today, and now I feel old.

Kinda hard to believe.

I think I'll honor this day by busting out the SNES and playing some Super Mario All Stars after work.

Would be nice to have that in the states, but as mentioned above I can play it on the SNES.

I feel old now too because growing up, Mario was an omni present cultural figure. Even by age five, it felt like he'd been around for 30 years already. It sucks being 24.

Anyway, Happy B-Day, Mario Mario. Hope you're still alive and wall jumping in another quarter century

PS Whenever I'm in the car with my dad and he says "Here we go" I'll reply in a high pitched Mario imitation "Here we go!". My dad doesn't get it, but it's fun.

If he would just wait like 10 seconds, they'll come back. God, that plumber just doesn't pay any damned attention.

It's Mario's world. We just live on it.

Also... Mario's not bald, DARKMITE8!

Whenever I see something like that commercial that mcnooj just posted, and I recognize it within 2 seconds, it really sinks in: I watched a shitload of TV as a kid. I think that ad was in every single break on every network during saturday morning cartoons for weeks on end.

Edit: Thinking about the year this came out, I also realized that yeah, I still watched saturday cartoons when I was a teenager. Oh, man.

Ah, Mario... Aside from Castlevania, this is my favourite game series ever. I remember the first time I saw it in an arcade at Cedar Point in Ohio. I had only played the adjective-less Mario Bros. before then. Seeing this new cabinet combined with the fact that a title I was familiar with now was being modified by the word "Super" had my attention.

Unfortunately, I couldn't play it, as the line of people for it was crazy. I did manage to get some glimpses, though. And it blew my mind.

When the original NES came out, I couldn't believe that the console version looked exaclt like the arcade version. I only had an Atari 7800 at the time, so the idea that a game on a home system could look exactly like what I saw in the arcade was astounding to me.

Been playing Mario games ever since, with 3 being probably my favourite of the series.

I might need to fire that up when I get home tonight.

The NES was the first system I ever owned that wasn't a hand-me-down from my older brothers. I fondly remember popping open that box, hooking everything up(the picture looked terrible as I recall), and immediately calling my buddy because I had no idea how to play Super Mario Brothers(I ran from the power up mushroom, for instance). I might be a big fuzzy, but I think it was the first platformer I had ever played other than Pitfall. It was uncharted territory, and amazing.

It was also the first game where I swung the controller in the direction I was jumping, thinking it would somehow help.

That's funny. I often find myself saying "In the immortal words of Mario, 'Let's a-go!'" (in Charles Martinette voice, mind you) whenever my friends and I are ready to go somewhere.

For a moment there I was wondering why on earth was Jason Voorhees was in this.

Being a child of the 80's Mario was end all be all in Video games. Mario Bros. 2 is still my favorite of the series.

You think that's old...

I've been around long enough to know that it's actually Mario's 29th birthday. I was plugging quarters and game tokens into the Donkey Kong machines back in the day and helping Mario/Jumpman rescue Pauline.

I was going to say, wasn't he in Donkey Kong? I know Mario's older than 25, because Donkey Kong came out the same year I did.
Yeah it's actually the 25th Birthday of Super Mario Bros., not Mario himself. He was in a few games before that.

You're only officially born when you're super.
