Favorite comic logo

I saw the New X-Men logo in the last pic in this post and remembered how much I dug it. It was such a simple design, but created a very effective identity. So, of course, I got to thinking about the title logo for other comics and which ones were my favorites. I went through a bunch in my head -- the many classic Batman logos with the bat silhouette behind them, the sweeping Uncanny X-Men logo, the curved Amazing Spider-Man, but I think this one remains my favorite:

I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's the arrow inside the A suggesting bold forward movement, maybe it's that most of the issues I read as a kid featured different colored variations of it, but there's just something about this word mark that personifies the team like none of the others they've had.

For some reason I always smile when I see the old DC Comics logo. Not the bullet that was phased out a couple of years ago, but the really old one that just said "Superman" and "National Comics" in the border. The design isn't particularly innovative, but it just evokes a time when the comics industry was like classic hollywood or something, even though comics were probably never like hollywood.

Off the top of my head the American Flagg! logo and the Hellboy one, I always thought, were great designs.
Kevin Nowlan is a lettering master and he knows great design. Though i'm not sure if Chaykin designed the American Flagg logo or if Ken Bruzenak had the honors...

The original and oft-ressurected, Kirby era Fantastic Four logo. Seems a good fit with the quirky, good-clean-fun tone of the comic.
