So "hypothetically" speaking, what would be the difference...

between publicly making fun of a kid with Downs Syndrome on Facebook (or at the least, getting a really big kick out of the kid's karaoke videos), and laughing at videos of black people eating fried chicken and watermelon?

I just find it funny when people vehemently abhor anything with a whiff of racism, but can't wait to join in the fucking dogpile laughing at someone born with a lesser intellectual capacity than those of us "gifted" folk.

Sad.
What? Both crowds suck equally.
Yeah, can't say there is a difference. Unless it's a Vampire with Downs Syndrome of course.
Has this been provoked by any specific incident? Because I'm with Jake and Ken here - both groups are assholes.
Well, one is laughing at people because they are taking part in an action that is stereotypical of their culture. The other is laughing at someone for failing to perform a task competently. They are not analogous (unless "terrible at karaoke" is stereotypical of people with Downs Syndrome).

That is not to say I support either one, both are cruel and hurtful. Just saying they are different
post #6 of 103
Anyone claiming to be a vampire prolly has Downs Syndrome.

A) I do NOT have Down's Syndrome.

B) How'd my karaoke video's get online?

Is this in reference to the videos Devin posted on Twitter/Facebook?
Yeah, people are still obsessing with Devin?
Grow up gents.

I wasn't going to respond anymore to this, but in the interest of not being a passive aggressive tit hiding behind vaguely directed statements... yes. It's about those videos.

I just don't get it. Calling people retards on a forum is one thing. Some people get touchy about it and all, but hey, it's not like he was actually making fun of a legitimately handicapped person while doing it.

I have family with Downs, so needless to say it's an extremely touchy subject for me. Yet, it's one that I try to handle reasonably. I don't freak out everytime someone calls someone else a "retard" or describes an action/piece of art/etc. as "retarded."

And of course, everyone's different and some people just can't help laughing at the expense of a clearly mentally disabled person. Sadly, I have plenty of friends/acquaintances that engage in this.

But when that same person has been known to be so vigilant against one sort of hurtful humor/hate/etc., I just can't even process how they go from that... to the other.

Different strokes I suppose.

Really? "Grow up?" It came across my facebook page, hard to ignore. I'm not the one laughing at the disabled. We all "know" him here, thus, I vented. Sue me.
But it's so funny when a certain someone post it!

Wow. I just watched that video... classy on his level I guess...
Seriously, Joey, there are still people that worship every precious offering Devin has, how dare you point out his Blatant cruel behavior against mentally handicapped people. If he had the balls to log back in, I'm sure his defense would be "That retard will never read my comments laughing at him and making fun of him. Besides, one time I had to wipe a guys ass, so it's ok."
What's it got to do with the boards? So he's being an asshole, send him an email or block him off your facebook.

I didn't watch the videos. I didn't find it funny. But you guys need a new hobby.

Well honestly, I don't think it occurred to him.

Shit. Almost wish I wouldn't have started the thread, because happy trails, bygones and all that. That shit ("retard humor") is my kryptonite though.
I can't believe I had this fucker on my Facebook "friend" list. Out!
And Tati, you saying someone "obsesses" over devin is kind of ironic.
How so ?
Oh, we all had our "obsess over Devin" period. It's part of the process.
If you love him set him free. That's my philosophy. And Sting's.
I think it's hilarious when anyone who doesn't look just like me does ANYTHING.

Yeah, I can't go out in public anymore...

Having a 180 degree personality switch on the boards because he thought you posted too many pictures and not enough about movies, maybe? Mind you, you're not alone, but the difference is tangible.

Now let's laugh at that retard a bit!
I actually masturbated to Devin's review of THE SOCIAL NETWORK just to see if it would make me feel anything. It didn't work, but at least I got to bust.
I actually started to watch more movies, and you know, grew up.
You think it's because Devin told me to? hahaha.

Martin, really, you need a new hobby.

The video in question.

This place is starting to feel like one of those sitcoms where the lead actor has left the show but the show keeps going and they keep referencing them even though they are gone.

Yeah, and even more stupid is the fact that apparently, there are 2 sides. The anti fun team that only wants to talk about movies. And the super duper friends team that wants to just have fun and talk shit and post 3 pages of really really stupid jokes.

It's not like that at all, there can be movie talk and fun. This isn't Twilight Martin, I don't have a shirt that says Team Devin and you a shirt that says Team Fun.

I honestly stopped enjoying the mindless pages of "funny" and i enjoy a LOT more the movie talk. There are chat rooms, you guys all have each other in facebook, you've got Rob's boards that you all go and talk about your lunch and Devin and so on.

Learn to discern what's really adding something to the conversation and what's not. And for the love of god, stop posting about what Devin does or doesn't do.

Oddly enough, I'm not alone in thinking that, but hey, if you're happy in that reality, so be it!

And yes, you're my past, current and future hobby. What can I say, your semi-hidden attempts at validating your existence by having the approval of internet critics while struggling with weight issues is fascinating...
Come on, guys, this is getting mean. Plenty of room for everyone to coexist on the boards.
Damn. I've had relationships and actual real life friendships end and they didn't bother me as much as Devin seems to for some people. Let it go.

It does feel like the 'fun' side has won out. It seems like no one is posting about movies anymore. Which is a shame, because I always preferred the 'intellectual' Chud.

In regards to the issue itself. It occurs to me that most people give themselves 'passes' for abuse. Like if you're Jewish you can tell Jewish jokes. I think because Devin worked with people with mental health issues and disabilities he's decided that he's got the right to make those kind of jokes. He's earned it.

Lord, another of these threads. The ghost of Faraci looms too large in certain minds for it not to be some sort of psychosexual thing.

You know me so well Martin. How did i never realize what i was doing!!
Would you and the band of brothers of fun forgive me?? Can i go talk about my lunch and Vneck sweaters now?? Please?

Dude, grow up.

That, plus his attitudes towards other prejudices are precisely why I was so surprised to see it come across my page.

Bullshit. My son has autism, that doesn't mean I've earned the bad taste to mock anyone else with it. By the by, I didn't know any of this before joey started the thread, and I don't give a fuck if it's Devin or a complete unknown. It just absolutely boils my blood when anyone has the audacity to mock mentally handicapped people, and I hope one day he gets the painful revenge owed him for it. Such a fucking cowardly piece of shit move. Fuck him, and fuck anyone who thinks he's funny doing it.

Wasn't saying it's right, for obvious reasons, just speculating on a hypothesis.

I know Spike, and I should clarify (and apologize to you), I'm not saying you're bullshit, I'm saying he's used that chickenshit excuse a thousand times on here before, and it's never held water.

Yes Tati, all the other boards have meaningless conversations but here... It's not about non-fun, or fun side, or movie talk or non-movie talk, it's about general attitude, and now it's slowly getting back to where it was years ago, which is more relaxed and less bitchy.

Is it insensitive to mock people with Aspergers, or OCD or hoarders? Because these people have legitimate disabilities, and I often mock them. This isn't a joke post, I'm honestly interested to where the line in the sand that makes you an asshole is drawn.

I'm pretty sure you'd be an asshole even if you didn't mock disabled people.
Kind of shitty. I mean, think about it, why are making fun of them? What do you gain about mocking their challenges?
Anybody see anything good this weekend? I watched Edge of Darkness, not great but not helped by Gibson's personal messes. He's kind of hard to watch now. A shame. (Road Warrior remains untouched by the NuMel stank.)

I rewatched half of Mikey and Nicky, but it was after 14 hours of work and I fell* asleep halfway through. It made me wonder if it was supposed to be set in Philly, or if it just filmed there, because they refer to "Broadway" and "14th Street" in some scenes, but Philly has neither - what would be called 14th Street in Philly is actually named Broad, so no 14th or Broadway. Weird.

Animal Kingdom stuck Air Supply in my head for a week. Fuck you, Rain Dog!

*Drank myself to

Good to know. From now on I'll save my mockery for rape victims.
