O. Russell returns with Wahlberg and Bale fighting it out.

I'm 100% on-board. Looks fantastic.

Early prediction: Christian Bale will be getting a supporting actor Oscar next year.
I don't know why, but I'm a sucker for boxing pictures. I'm sold on this one.
Looks good. I really like the change in the cinematography that comes with the shots of the boxing.

You're right about it looking like something different from Bale. Even in the heavier acting moments he seems to have a little more life in the eyes than usual. I like that.

Wow, first footage I've seen, and I'm sold. Should be a good time at the movies.
Wow. Bale looks awful. Like physically awful.
Looks good but looks pretty cliche, I hope Bale is able to bring something to the fuck-up brother role.
Of course they'll make the trailer look cliche. No telling what's inside.

Is Wahlberg the only actor to show up for more than one David O Russell movie? What is that, Stockholm Syndrome?

Man, I really like Amy Adams.
I was already going to watch this anyway. The invocation of the Amy Adams Rule sets it in stone.

Looks very, very good. I stopped watching the trailer at a certain point because it seemed to be giving away the whole damn film. Still, I expect this to be more than the race to touch all the obligatory boxing movie plot points the trailer suggests it to be.

Hooray for Awake Bale and Good Wahlberg, two rare sights nowadays.

A part of me was always going to wonder how Darren Aronofsky would have handled the story, but that does look pretty great (cliché inspirational music not withstanding)

"Hey he's a boxer, break his hand!" made me smirk but it looks like a solid boxing movie and I'm also pleased to see Bale stretching himself a bit. I'll be there.

I saw the "test market" trailer months back at one of those mall kiosks. This version looks a bit meatier. Glad they kept a shot of Adams in her underwear.
I felt suffocated by cliches by the end but I freely admit that could simply be the way they've structured the trailer. I'm curious tho so I look forward to hearing The Word on this when it comes out in the US.

Lily Tomlin and Richard Jenkins were in Flirting with Disaster.

Looks great to me. Clichéd, sure, but given this was going to be an Aronofsky picture and then moved into David O. Russell's hands, I have a feeling there's going to be some real meat inbetween these crowd-pleasing marketing beats.

Nice to see Bale putting some real effort into his part, and even nicer to see Amy Adams in general.

It looked OK. And it basically showed the whole story. But the actors seem to be bringing it. Specially Bale. I like that he's doing different things.

Has Wahlberg ever exhibited any hot-head tendencies? Maybe he "gets it."

I initially thought Russell and Bale would kill each other. But then I realized it's more likely they'd see each other and immediately embrace while whispering, "I know, brother, I know. They just don't fucking understand, do they?"

Mark has been known to tell the Funky Bunch "If you ain't innit to winnit, then get the HELLOUT!"

I'm gonna echo the Bale optimism (and the Amy Adams in her underwear optimism). It's really refreshing to see what looks like him loosening up with a role like this.

re: spoilers: this is a true story, so...

I am looking forward to this movie. It sounds great, and I love the cast. I'm a little disappointed that Aronofsky left the project, but I'm sure Russell can do something interesting with it. I'm very much a Whalberg apologist. He can work in certain roles, and he carved out a special place in my heart with THE CORRUPTOR. Given his strong track record with Russell already, I'm sure he'll do just fine. As a long time addiction enthusiast, I'm certain Mr Bale will do admirable work when it comes to turning in an accurate depiction of my favorite hobby. His substance abuse in HARSH TIMES was hilarious, and I hope FIGHTER gives him a chance to show the other side of the equation as he plucks himself out of the mire in order to help his brother achieve greatness

Does Bale actually look kind of lively and not that dour and depressing? That alone makes me want to see this.

Fuck cliches, that trailer just makes this look wonderful.
I know, I had to replay the opening with him mugging and making funny faces just to confirm it was him.
I don't know what Christian Bale people have been watching the past five years if they think he is dour, humorless and never makes a funny face. RESCUE DAWN, HARSH TIMES, and the PRESTIGE all feature scenes of non gloomy Batvoiced Bale
post #25 of 27
But they don't feature him being particularly energetic or lively. I didn't say, "Hey! He's not using his Batman voice!" I said he looked lively. As in, he looks like he's got some verve this time around. I wouldn't exactly describe Dieter Dengler as a man with a lot of verve.

I'm wondering if Russell wasn't a bit beaten down by the Nailed experience and decided to do something more straightforward, and likely successful, in order to go back to getting his more personal stuff done. Not a knock, and that's not to say this won't be good.

ETA: Man I want to see Nailed get finished.

Bale's character in the Prestige sure was a basketful of sunshine and energy.
