Transformers the Movie: (1986) Appreciation thread - Page 3

Saturday the 16th is out for me, dammit. I'm gonna be out of town all day with the farkin' in-laws. If you can do it ANOTHER Saturday, I'm in...otherwise, I'll play catch-up on the thread later on.

Thanks for wating for me guys

Things that I want to look out for on this viewing.

1. Which charaters actually die, because I'm pretty sure Wheeljack dies but i
can't remember when.

2. What new charater Skywarp becomes when Unicron remakes him. I can never tell if it's Scourge or Cyclonus.

3. Which old school bots live.

I can tell you now, but it sounds like you want to wait till the day of.
this could be great! so 9 am eastern, which means thats 7am mountain??
Right folks, what's the craic here? Do we move at dawn or hang back for the overseas cavalry?

I'd rather go into battle with a full compliment, it must be said...
So... Saturday the 16th it is? 9am EST? I say we wait for Judas.

But I can do it, so I'll go with the majority.
I agree about waiting. I mean, I want it to be tomorrow morning, but it won't be the same unless it's a global love-in.
If the 16th is the BEST day for everyone, do it. Don't worry about me. I MAY be able to get the viewing in before we head out of town.

I've never been in the business of leaving comrades behind, sir, and I don't intend to start now.

What a legend!

Let's see, we're all happy with Saturday morning. Check.

We're all in this together so it'll be a Saturday we can all make.

And, yeah I say we all watch it simultaneously.

Thank you and right back at ya, mate! It's gonna be tough to refrain from watching the movie again before we roll out, but I know it must be done.

Whats wrong with the Sunday of that weekend? could we do that? 16th is my neice's birthday and I might get some funny looks for missing that to watch Transformers
post #114 of 697
I'm afraid I'm going to have to put a spanner in the works on that one I'm on me holidays on the 17th until the 29th.

Now, for the first time in my brief tenure here I going to be a bastard. I forbid you all from doing this without me.

Wow... I kinda scared myself there.

What was wrong with next weekend?
I'm working
You must all hate me
I can do THIS weekend (the 9th) or the weekend of the 23rd and beyond. I MAY be able to squeeze it in on the 16th if we do it early, like around 8am my time. Even then, I can't guarantee it: we're going out of town to visit my in-laws for a mini family reunion and I'll be entirely on my wife's schedule.

If the 16th works for everyone else, then do it. Seriously. I'll endeavor to join you if I can.
I can't do it this weekend, but I'm fine with any weekend after that for the foreseeable future.

If it wouldn't take my signature to awkward proportions, I'd add this in a heartbeat. It gave me a CHUD Show level-laugh.

OK, which mod commandeered this post and inviso-texted their "Edited By?" I wanna know!

I can't let this fail. I just can't.

J.B., you're a top man for saying, but no-one gets left behind. I'd rather do it soon - of course, I would - but I'll wait until November, heck, I'll wait until the New Year if it means, hopefully, getting a full roster involved.

Poor organization has stood in the way of other potentially great CHUD events before. This one mustn't be allowed to suffer the same fate. Who's with me?

'Till all are one!

To use a line from the film itself. "The Ayes have it!"

Also I can't belive how easy it was to find that screen shot.
I agree let's wait for Judas, any Sunday is fine with me if that helps clear everyone up. Even this Sunday I get back from my trip Saturday evening.

You know the only thing that bugged me about this flick was how crap the vehicle form for Kupp was, if he truly was an old warrior his alternate form should have been a beat up old truck not a slipper on wheels.

Ether that or take one of the less well known older Autobots and given them Kupp's role.
Hey! I had the Kup action figure and had lots of meaningful playtime with him! Slipper on wheels... how dare you?! You turbo-revvin' young punks! I'll straighten you out yet!
I also remember the toy of Kup and it was shit, so was Ultra Magnus which was basically a white Optimus Prime in an Ultra Magnus suit, weird...

Anyway is this global watch along still happening? sounds like a great idea and I own the DVD, queued up and ready to rock......
Oh yeah, Lloyd. We're just waiting for everyone.

November's Saturdays: the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th.

December's Saturdays: the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th.

I know we've got comrades away and so forth, but I still think we should wait for everyone to be available. What say you to posting which dates (if any) work for everyone from those above and taking it from there?

If everyone can agree on a date, I'll do everything in my power to save it.

From the 4th of December onwards will be tricky for me. But anytime in November is great.
Early November, either on Saturdays or Sundays, would be better. Most of us yanks are gonna be uber busy towards the end of the month with Thanksgiving and so forth.

eta: holy shit, just noticed that I crossed the 10K mark on posts. Yeeeeeeeeesh.

It could have been worse, it could be a post about Star Wars.
Thanks for the cultural heads up, J.B!

How's early November for the remaining cats?
As of right now any time in November is fine with me.
Any Saturday morning in November would be fine for me.
I'm excited to watch this movie.
Welcome aboard, jonah. Saturdays in November cool for you?
Let's nail this down. I don't think that ANYONE had an objection to early November, so let's do it.

Subject to final approval by Mike's Pants (who started the ball rolling on this), let's set the date for Saturday, November 6th at 9am Eastern (which I believe puts us at 2pm GMT). Who's onboard with this?

Anyway, yeah. Not much else to add except that it really does piss all over the Bay films thanks to i) the sheer brutality it exhibits to all those childhood favourites (You like Prowl, Ironhide and Wheeljack, kids? Well fuck you. You love Optimus Prime and Starscream, kids? WELL FUCK YOU); ii) the ridiculously cheesy yet endearing soundtrack; and iii) a surprisingly memorable script peppered with fun lines, most of which went to Springer. Seriously, never even heard of the guy before and he shows up like a giant, green robot Han Solo? Awesome.
Sounds good to me, J.B. That should leave enough time for anyone to weigh in before Mike's final say.

Sentinel Red, I like the way your jib's cut.
This is by far the best cinematic Transformers movie. Yeah there's some real cheese in here but this movie had BALLS. I know the movie was nothing but an expanded toy commercial for the 2nd generation Transformers toys but the execution of getting rid of every G1 character in one way or another was brilliant and nicely mean spirited.

I'm seriously tempted to put this in tonight. It's been too long and this thread is giving me the perfect excuse.

This became kind of tempered once you realize that the only reason they killed off all these old characters was so that they could introduce all new toys.

I will share the love for Springer though. That dude needed to show up in the Bay movies.

Group Viewing of Transformers: The Movie (1986)

Saturday, November 6th
9am Eastern/2pm GMT

Who's in?
6am PST, eh?

I'M IN! If I can wake up... hahahah
I have nothing against moving it out for you guys on the West Coast. 9am EST was suggested by someone else and I just ran with it.

Would 11am Eastern time/4pm GMT suit everyone better?
As I've said before, I can be very accommodating. Unless there are others on the West Coast that object, I'm fine with 6 am.
Look at it this way: you'll be reliving your childhood by waking up early on a Saturday morning to watch cartoons. Get some Frankenberry and do it right.
9am is fine... I may have a massive hangover (particularly since I have to make up this weekend for not partying last weekend... but I digress) but it's not like I can't take a nap at 10:30 until lunch time. Let's do it.

I'm a latecomer to this party, but goddamned if I'm not overjoyed. Not only do I have a Canadian copy of this on VHS just so I could have a version where Spike says shit but I have the 20th Anniversary two disc DVD set as well. I as well live by this version, like Bayformers, and think that Fallen was Bay's way of Raping some of the best parts of the animated movie. I'll definitely get in on this watchalong.
