Cast the next music biopic. - Page 2

The miracles of tape and CGI.

I'd second Hardy as Jagger. Rhys Meyers already got to play Elvis.

Now if we only could get that Weird Al Biopic with Aarron Paul off the ground.

Hell, why not have Joseph Gordon Levitt as Joe Strummer?

Peter Skarsgaard is Stephen Sondheim*. With Neil Patrick Harris as Hal Prince.

*Although word on the street says that the Norbert Leo Butz-led ensnemble drama from John Logan and Kathryn Bigelow that HBO is doing is basically Sondheim: The HBO show.

But isn't it Frank Langella that's playing the Sodnheim surrogate?
No, Butz is the Sondheim surrogate and the center. Langella's his dad, who's like Norman Mailer, if Mailer was still fucking around and was a painter.

It's a very good script. Very theatrical. Lots of monologues. Logan can write a little. I think it'll fill a nice niche for HBO.

Anthony Anderson:

As Wesley Willis:

Wesley's story would make a hell of a movie, by the by.

Well that's exciting. I mixed up the characters and premise, and the fact Butz is leading the show is even more exciting to me. Logan's a good writer, but his script for Red left me a little listless.

I mean, I didn't see RED, but from what you said, there were a lot of monologues about The Importance of Art and Why You Can Be A Dick If You Are A Genius, both of which are repeated here, but there's emotional heft to them. It's clear that Logan has a plan for at least the first season (and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a one-and-done deal), and again, it's NLB playing Stephen Sondheim. That gets my eyeballs.

It's basically SIX FEET UNDER with art as the linking theme instead of death, is what I'm saying.

That's one of the hottest things I've ever heard.

Peter Serafinowicz as Robert Plant

It's all in the eyes. And Serafinowicz can probably already to a Plant impression anyway!

That's a weird movie.

So here's the question: which of these films would have the best chance of transcending "Hollywood-Biopic-By-The-Numbers"?

From what Rath has said, I'd say the Sondheim roman a clef might have a chance, but are there any important rock/blues/soul/country/jazz figures whose stories would break out of the Walk The Line / Ray mold?

Wesley Willis.

The answer is Wesley Willis, Jeb.

Great call. And your preferred casting choice?

Steve Coogan must do The Billy Childish Story.

Spent seven seconds trying to figure out why in God's name Eddie Vedder was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with Angelina Jolie.
