Coast to Coast AM listeners

I thought this might make for an interesting sister thread for those of you who are frequenting the thread of the unexplained. Do any of you listen to Coast to Coast Am? Have you listened in the past? If so what are (were) some of your favorite shows? I've been working graveyard shift for a couple of months now and I keep listening every chance I get. I've also been digging through some of the archives on youtube for classic Art Bell material. I've heard some interesting stuff, including interviews with Bob Lazar and John Titor (supposed time traveller). While I do consider myself a skeptic, I try to keep an open mind to the possibilities and implications that the program entertains. Because for every nutcase that goes on the show (and I do believe there are many) there is always the possibility that someone is telling the truth.

Lady Vivisector and I put it on as a aural nightlight, and I'll wake up in the middle of the night to the strangest conversations. It can be depressing as well, with all the end of the world stuff. At least now that Art Bell is off with his new family in the Phillipines, so the drumbeat of the end of the world as we know it isn't as strong.

I live to hear Major Ed Dames, who's been proclaiming the end of life as we know it is just around the corner for many years. He's one of those remote viewer types who seems to lust for everyone to just die horribly.

I have actually heard Coast to Coast AM cite CHUD on at least three occasions. They are reading! All three were on Weekend Coast to Coast, but still, I love to listen to it if I am up. (Normally when I am travelling or coming home from a movie. It's a 40 minute car ride from the good theaters.)

Are you sure those people weren't referring to the actual Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers in the sewers of New York, who are in league with the lizard people and planning to enslave the Bigfoots as their army to invade Area 51 and steal technology from the crashed alien ship from Roswell that's stored there to travel back in time to form the Free Masons, assassinate Kennedy, and force the Bush administration to engineer 9/11 in order to pave the way for the Mayan apocalypse in 2012?

CHUD.com was cited for Iron Man 2 news, Daredevil news, and something else. Though I distinctly remember that Mayan Apocalypse 2012 was, is, and will be directly caused by the anti-gravity devices that are currently being developed by the Pentagon and the lizard people. The lizard people refused to comment, but Robert Gates was quoted as saying 'Despite historic ties between Free Masonry and the Lizard people, we do not believe that either group is developing anti-gravity devices in order to enslave the Sasquatch or Lower NYC sewer boroughs."

I liked the $300 time machine. No refunds.

The Halloween Ghost-to-Ghost call-in shows are usually pretty damn cool. For a while I subscribed to the show for access to old episodes, but decided to stop as a cost-cutting measure a year or so ago. I may resume, there's nothing quite like it.

The one time I listened to the show, the caller was claiming to be a former black ops/covert intelligence agent, now reduced to working as a trucker to protect his identity. And the host - no idea if it was Art or George - just did "Really? That's amazing!" thing the entire time, giving this obvious delusional nutjob/attention whore all the time he wanted, without ever seriously questioning his credentials or so-called inside knowledge.

That was all I needed to hear to decide to never, ever listen again.

I love listening to this show just because of all the craziness that always comes up.

That's the one big problem I have with the show. They seem to take blind credulity to a whole new level, without offering any challenges or critical inquiry into a lot of the claims being made. I think George Noory tends to do this more than Art ever did but I may be wrong. I am well aware of this when I am listening to the show but I still find it entertaining nonetheless. One of the reasons why I created this thread was so I could weed through a lot of those crappy shows and get to the really good stuff, where challenging questions are asked that may not be so easily dismissed. But I totally get your point.

I have to imagine there are better portals or sources for getting into legitimately puzzling phenomena, ideas or theories. The blind credulity, as you aptly put it, makes wading through the bullshit an extremely onerous job.

I recorded the John Titor 2-part broadcast and keep it on my Ipod.

I love this show and Art Bell so fucking much.

I've caught bits and pieces of the John Titor show on youtube. From what I recall, it was one of the few programs I've heard where I was not so quick to dismiss it on grounds of sheer lunacy. The guy sounds extremely convincing.

But where's the fun in that? I don't listen to the show all that frequently, but the times I have, the vibe I got was that the hosts know these people are wacko, but that letting them ramble is just good radio.

Well, I know Art Bell used to describe his show as "pure entertainment", whatever that means. I haven't made up my mind about the hosts yet. I suppose they could either be genuine believers or merely opportunists who saw that there was a lucrative career in playing into other peoples' fear and paranoia. My personal feeling when I listen to the show is a mixture of genuine intrigue and pure amusement from an objective standpoint. It's usually the latter. I don't tire of listening to nutbags very easily.

I've always been a big fan of his story. Not enough people that follow Bell have really given the Titor stuff much credit.

Just the level of detail and research alone is amazing.

I used to have a job that had me out driving at night, so I used to listen to a lot of Art Bell. My absolute favorite episodes were the ones dealing with Mel's Hole.

It's batshit crazy, but entertaining as Hell.

Yeah Mel's Hole was great, but I still don't believe a damn word of it.

I used to listen to this show a lot, but then I got sick of Art Bell's annual retirements.

From the high desert and the GREAT American Southwest I bid you all good morning, good evening, good afternoon whatever the case may be in all 50 states and worldwide over the internet THIS is Coast to Coast AM I am your host Art Bell. . . . . .

Wow I got all of that from memory - loved the show back in the 90's when the X-Files were cool. I still have a ton of shows archived and listen to the old Ghost to Ghost shows when I need to get the willies. It's PURE entertainment because the shows range from slightly believable to batshit crazy. I dig Art's taste in bumper music, too.

I'm a Streamlink member so I get all the shows sent to my iPhone. Sometimes I'll go a week without listening only to burn through a backlog of episodes on my overnights at work. It's rare I miss an episode. I've heard Ian name drop CHUD before. He seems to have a pretty big pop culture slant to most of his stuff. He also doesn't suffer any fools on the air. His tolerance for Open Line bullshit is next to nil.

George Noory on the other hand is guilty as charged on making nice with the crazies. Isn't that the point of C2CAM though? If this show exercised any type of bullshit detector it wouldn't be worth listening to. You have to let everyone have a voice. That being said I rarely listen to the Open Lines podcasts. Some of those people are so disturbed it's just depressing.

Every once and awhile I will suffer through an Open Lines show just to get that one caller who sounds legit. The ordinary dude that crossed paths with something fantastic and doesn't know who else to talk to about it. I love those calls, that's really what the show is all about.
