Kitty Hawk, WHERE?

Might want to fact check that geography.

Other than that...this is a staple column that I can't believe never came up before. Do not stop.

Another great list. Lots of movies there that I need to catch up on. But it also kind of wants to make me want to watch A Bridge Too Far again.

Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying these things. It's something that really sets CHUD.com apart from other movie sites that don't really know anything about movies. Plus I got movies to look up!

It's a really solid film. Its biggest problem is actually the true story more than anything else; it's just hard to pull off a satisfying ending when the story NEEDS to sputter out into failure, but not like epicly tragic failure. Just embarrassing failure. Fantastic cast though, and that signature William Goldman tone.

Yeah, agree. But its just so well-acted and stylishly directed that I love to watch it. I wonder if it would've helped to have taken a smaller view and set the movie in the midst of Market Garden than making it about Market Garden.

But anyway, feel like I'm starting to derail.

I don't think it's a derail. Movie was mentioned in the piece, after all.

It is tough to tackle real-life material with an unsatisfying ending, unless you have a really great take on how to make that work for you. Like Fincher did with ZODIAC; making the ultimately futile struggle to find the killer into kind of a tragic MOBY DICK tale of obsession instead of an actual who-dunnit. I read something (can't remember what) with Goldman talking about how hard it was to tackle the story. I think he just never had a legit take on how to really pull it off. Fortunately there was so much talent flying around on the film that it is indeed a pleasure to watch.

Nice link between Final Destination and OK GO videos.

All that's missing is the creepy British horror film The Survivor with Jenny Agutter.

All that is missing from my life is 1981-era Jenny Agutter.
