They are rather different from each other. Powers is a more traditional comic book, in that it features Superpowers and places a greater emphasis on continuity. The art is better in Powers also, the dialogue is undiluted Bendis (which I happen to like but YMMV). Q&E is naturally more realistic, and this tone is reflected in the styles of the art and the script.

Both are well worth a read, so it probably comes down to which you'd prefer, a spy thriller or a cop show set in a Marvelish Universe. My advice go with Q&E if you're looking for something a little different, and it has that rare thing in comics, a well written female lead.

Love Q & C, have the whole run and the two novels, It has my highest recomendation. In all fairness to Powers I haven't read it yet.

Thanks for your advice. I'll go the Queen & Country route for now.

Queen & Country is good..

I find Powers more interesting, largely because it has had the same creative team for its entire run, and Bendis and Oeming have shaped it into a book that always knocks me out visually, even during fallow periods in the storytelling. And, for what it's worth, it also features a well-written female (co)-lead.

But you can't go wrong with either.

Is a full volume of Powers worth a blind-buy? The only copy of the first installment in the local library system has, like, eight holds on it.

Well, "blind buy" is tricky considering how tastes vary. But if Powers sounds like something you'd enjoy, spring for volume 1 of the "Definitive Hardcover Collection." Right now, Amazon has it for only three bucks more than the first trade collection, and it's got much more material.
