CHUD LIST: BODILY FUNCTION JUNCTION - DAY 14

All hail Mr. Creosote.

By far the favorite scene of this 14-year old boy (even more than the swarm of naked ladies in crash helmets!). I especially love how, when Creosote arrives, the woman excuses herself because she's afraid she's going to get her period all over the seats.

To this day I still use the phrases "it's only waffa thin!" and "I'll have the lot mixed up in a bucket" at appropriate times.

As great as that sequence is, it kind of overwhelms the rest of the movie, as nothing else in it is remotely as memorable.

Another great choice.

I agree. The awesome animated bit with the tree is probably the only other thing I remember from the film, but it has been a while.

No love for the Crimson Permanent Assurance? Really? Or is that considered to be too much a wholly separate entity from the film proper?

It's a real uneven movie.

There's a couple of good bits in there. The sex ed class, the amazing rugby game that follows, "Every Sperm Is Sacred", the song about the universe.

It's just that, as mentioned, NOTHING makes as big a mark on the mind as this.

The birth scene's fairly memorable as well, I find, and Find the Fish seems to stick in a lot of peoples' heads.

I don't know, I always found the man who was able to choose his own form of execution memorable (boobs).

The scene with John Cleese as Death is great. "The Salmon Mousse!"

Also, a bit of a lull, but I LOVE Eric Idle and Michael Palin playing a middle-aged midwestern American couple. Their terrible American accents are endearing.

Gotta be honest: I thought that the Mr. Creosote scene would be #25: the CAPPER on your list. It's easily one of the single best things that Python has ever done.

This list isn't in some order of power. This is one of the biggies though.

It's definitely the one I felt was the "elephant in the room" from the get go. Glad to see it wasn't glossed over.

Uneven as it most definitely is, this film is still a favorite of mine. The big moments are worth the misfires for me.

Totally.

Man, the Creosote scene was such a watershed (puke-shed?) moment for my comic sensibilities as a young kid. I'll never forget just watching this wide-eyed and open mouthed and only really laughing afterwards. Cleese just kills in this scene. But then, when does he not?

Even with its lulls (and the only really grating one is the "killing each other" segment), Meaning of Life is still the Python movie that best captures the flavor of the original show.

Well, assuming you're not counting And Now For Something Completely Different of course.

Overall it's the weakest Python movie, but it does contain (arguably) the biggest laughs of any of their films: Mr. Creosote, Organ donation, both death sequences...there's gold to be had, but you have to sit through quite a few misfires.

Nick, if you make a list of cinematic internal organs, you need to include the Organ Donor scene.

A favorite of mine at 14 well. Up with BLAZING SADDLES farting scene as perfect for the comedic sensibilities of that age.

Best choice so far!

And what makes it more awesome is you can now by Monty Python's Wafter thin mints

What I love about this entry is that there is no other reason for this sketch other than complete repulsion. It's not big, or clever, or satirical*, it's just disgusting and in that regard a complete success.

*Unless we have that "Oh dear, another victim of overserving" discussion.

Legendary.
