Plus an additional $5 offered through Sony's site http://www.sonypictures.com/tv/shows/community/dvd.html. The code didn't immediately take on Amazon, but three minutes on the phone with a rep fixed it. Annie's boobs are flying off the shelf, people!

Man. I almost feel bad buying it for so cheap. Almost.

What did you say? I talked to a rep who said that she couldn't do anything because the coupon wasn't issued through Amazon directly. She's going to email the marketing department to verify the coupon and then email me in 24-48 hours to let me know about the results of the "investigation".

That Twitter Feed is so Awesome.

Didn't have to say much. I told the rep I had a pdf from the site and offered to email it to her. She said it wasn't necessary and set up a $5 promo credit in my acct. I'm sorry your case ended up getting turned over to Amazon's crackerjack Bargain Detective Squad. Maybe once they greenlight it, they'll give you an extra credit for your time. Best of luck.
Thanks. Hopefully, it'll work out.
I don't mean to be an asshole, but that is way too much effort for $5. Calling and haggling with Amazon? Pass. I'll just pay the $17.99 and be done with it (though the $5 would offset the cost of the used copy of Jim Croce's Photographs and Memories on vinyl I also bought, but I digress).
The code didn't work for me either but at $17.99 they are just giving this away for nothing. I think this is the first DVD I've bought for myself since last year. Only for you Community!
Yeah, Diva, I think you must have gotten the bad apple of the "gonna help you" bunch. Within 2 minutes of speaking to an amazon rep I had my account credited for the five dollars. You'll get yours soon enough.
I e-mailed Amazon about the promo code. Apparently, Amazon.com isn't a participating retailer for the Amazon.com promo code.

They gave it to me as an exception though, so I'm not too annoyed or anything. But, someone on one side or the other dropped the ball.

Son of a bitch! This is karma for haggling Amazon about my lost Arrested Development DVD back in the day!

Did you guys buy the DVD and then haggle about the code after? I didn't put the order through when I called because it hadn't worked. Maybe they are more lenient if you already spent the money?

I would say yes. Also, if you can't get your way with the telephone operator, simply ask to speak with his/her supervisor. This almost always works.

Yeah, that way I could refer to a specific order and they can apply the code manually to that.
Wow. I ordered it about a week ago, when it was $26.99. I saw the $17.99 promotion, and was ticked I missed it. Then I re-checked my order today on Amazon, and it's been reduced to the $17.99 price, AND I still retain my Super Saver Shipping discount.

I love you Amazon!! (and Community)
The code works as it should now. I just placed an order, and the site accepts "sonyfive" without a hitch! I'll have to wait a couple of weeks, because I bundled it with the new Darwyn Cooke PARKER book, but I'm a patient mofo when there's cheapness involved.

Thanks for the alert on the code!
Yeah, I just ordered it as well and thanks to Amazon Prime should be here shortly. It'll be great to have a bunch of episodes I can rewatch at the gym (after I rip them onto my iPod touch).
Well this is...odd. Amazon just e-mailed me to inform me that the code I was unsuccessful with has been applied, but they were only able to change the price because it did not ship yet (I pre-ordered Grindhouse on Blu, and those two items will ship together in a few weeks). I guess they can somehow tell I tried a few times to get it to work, because I did not contact them.

Fantastic AV Club interview with Dan Harmon. Really insightful stuff about the show's growth, primatology, sitcom formats, laugh tracks, and being the best show in the history of network TV.
Not even five minutes in and we get a Donald Glover Spider-Man gag and Pierce's priceless "Batman and Shaft" line. Amazing.
"Tell me again why Jewish people wear yarmulkes."
"That's easy: half a hat."
Oh COMMUNITY, how I missed you.
I don't care how overexposed Betty White is, she was incredible here.

Also love the digs at Shit My Dad Says (or Bleep My Dad Says, whatever). Which looks terrible, by the by.

Oh wow Chang doing Gollum how did I live without this show.
Pierce still has it with the hilariously obvious penis bit.

My hopeful prediction: A LOST type episode where Chang is Ben Linus.
Need gif of Annie slugging Jeff.
That was a great episode and I'm so looking forward to when they start making digs at Big Bang.
Yeah, that was kind of amazing in every single way.

The spider man pijama was simply perfect. Then all the black sidekicks, Troy riding Britta's popularity and my personal favorite

"I'm on the clock for another hour if you want me to do some Batman lines"

Best thing ever.
I love how things devolved. Quickly. The Smeagol Chang ending was totally aces though.
Also, Gilliam Jacobs looks hotter. Don't know how that's possible.
All the greatness you guys already brought up and still enough time to shit on Shit My Dad Says.

EDIT: Someone already mentioned it. My mistake. Regardless. Thank God Community is back!
Can't wait to watch this episode like 5x till the next one.

Yes I'm really happy it's back.
"He thinks all dogs are boys and all cats are girls!" Chang and Troy were great, but Pierce was the unsung hero of that episode.
I've never seen a cat's penis.
Chang as Gollum was the icing on the cake. What a great premiere and yeah I'm really glad it's back too.
I will be crushed tomorrow if Big Bang destroyed it. Fuck NBC and that time slot.
I would not have believed you could use Betty White well anymore, but they did it. Why can't anyone else figure out how to do that?

Great season opener.
Hilarious. The only one niggling point for me was that I sorta wished they had the Annie and Jeff kissed thing last longer.

They dealt with the aftermath of the relationship stuff pretty quick in the episode. I wouldn't want the series to get too bogged down in it, but it did make up a chunk of the finale.

Edit: Annie is so freakin' adorable. Her expressions as she saw Britta and Jeff disgusti-kiss were heartbreakingly funny.

Thanks for the link, Schwartz. Harmon comes off as a sharp guy in that interview. Just a really great attitude and interesting perspective on how to stay creative and original in the television format.
AMAZING. It's making a pretty good 30 Rock seem pretty boring in comparison.
Community, I've missed you so. This wasn't the best episode ever, but it was a great season-opener. I'm kind of relieved they dealt with most of the relationship stuff (not my favorite part of the show) right off the bat, so we can all move on to other subjects.

The Jeff & Britta kiss was one of the funniest/disgustingest things ever. And the anthropology rap/"Africa" mashup...amazing.

As were Betty White's crazed eyes as she was choking Jeff to death.
That opening with all the bedrooms was Wes Anderson-good.

So pleased to have this back.
I don't think I realized how much I missed this show until it started again. The group's reaction to finding out Jeff and Britta slept on the study table followed by Annie's running punch at Jeff were brilliant.

And, of course: oldwhitemansays

Well, it is the same time slot, on their big comedy night. At this point, NBC can't get too much blame over the fate of Community. Hell, they even gave us a sacrifical lamb that goes first (Outsourced).

I enjoy that while Big Bang Theory has come to represent the new status the nerd has acheived culturally, all the nerds are actually going to be watching Community.
I feel like Dan Harmon is trying really hard to not openly rip on anything that Community is NOT doing. Monkeys like laugh tracks!

I appreciate that he knows they had to put in a lot of work early on in order to make sure there was a solid foundation of character work so that the crazier episodes (paintball, chicken fingers) didn't come off as just fun gimmick episodes.

This premiere almost felt like it could be a season finale. So much stuff going on.

When it comes to Student Chang's Gollum moment... I love the fact that they're doing it now as opposed to some lesser show doing it when LOTR was still fresh in the public consciousness.
Is oldwhitemansays going to be an ongoing rip on Shit My Dad Says? As hilarious as the end joke and the ripping on Glee got, it's going to get old.

I assume it's going to be like the Annie's Boobs twitter account and not really be used.
The amazing thing is that the Gollum joke somehow hasn't become tired and overused yet. I was gasping.

Also gasping: Annie, as adorably as ever. Brie could carry a whole episode solely on reaction shots.
Welcome back everyone!

THAT IS WHY THEY FAIL!

More specifically, Glover's. "AWWWWWWWWWWWW . . . SOME!"
Holy balls what a fantastic episode. The massive showdown/confrontation in the study room was really well put together by all involved.

The Jeff & Brita fake relationship stuff were my favorite parts... the ipod bit killed me.
