Yeah, I don't think he's lying about his own experience, it just seems odd to think that his experience four decades ago in a single prison should be the basis for the here's "how it is" tone.
And for the record I've never been behind bars. The true life prison stories I've heard first hand are from several cousins on both sides of my family, as well as my father-in-law who was a prison chaplain for over 20 years. But even they never acted like they were in the know on how it really is in all prisons everywhere.
