Prison: Hollywood Versus Reality

Thread Starter
Really interesting article about the myths of prison up at the Muholland Books website.

Myth not debunked-- anal rape.
Exactly. What we all wanted to really know is what are our chances of being raped in the showers.

Thanks for the link Cameron. I kind of love the site they have going there.

I love that crooked cops are popular!
I'm not sure how popular they are; that part is played up a little bit. What prisoners really hate is anyone in PC - protective custody, or "punk city."

I wanted more discussion about DEATH WARRANT, but there's obviously nothing to debunk there. They will harvest your organs!

When I last gave blood, the interview quiz included a question about if you'd ever been in custody/jail/prison for more than 72 hours. I think we have our answer, Casey.

Really?

I don't know about the US, but here child molesters are indeed at the very low end of food chain. The last high profile case, a father raping and murdering his young boy, didn't even make it to court. From a few glimpses the cameras caught he was already beaten to a pulp while still in police custody, probably by the cops. When he was taken to prison to await trial he didn't last two weeks. He 'committed suicide' but from what was leaked it looked like someone went Holy Inquisition on him.

Thanks for the great read, Cameron.

Damn if I could find it I'd link to the very old thread about Chewers who've been to prison.

So child molester's AREN'T considered scum in prison? Ha! Take that, everyone who said it was unlikely that T-Bag could run the white supremacists!

I will say though I don't get why PC is such a bad option. Should I ever go to prison, I'm moving my flabby, weak ass over to the place where I'm least likely to be raped.

Yeah, this guy seems to make a shitload of generalisations from a period of time he spent in a prison in Indiana more than 40 years ago ago. The article comes across as if it's from a guy trying to big-up himself as the real deal more than a guy who really is any kind of authority. I'm not saying he's miles wrong, but I'd take what he says with a few grains of salt.

Let's just get into which chewers have been in jail. Out with it!

I'm sure the article is truthful, but I also felt it had that "big-up" vibe. In a later response he goes on to say he still visits the barber school of Pendleton two to three times a year, but I fail to see how visiting a subculture-of-a-subculture biannually gives one insight enough to claim "this is how it is in the big house for reals. I should know."

Click the "Sexual Assault Hotline" link on the Pendleton site. Cold, white, uncaring oblivion.

Hahaha, at first I was confused because nothing loaded...brilliant!

They could have at least linked it to the bristol stool chart or Bilbo or something. That's just mean.

I believe some mirror of goatse.cx would be most appropriate.

Yeah, I don't think he's lying about his own experience, it just seems odd to think that his experience four decades ago in a single prison should be the basis for the here's "how it is" tone.

And for the record I've never been behind bars. The true life prison stories I've heard first hand are from several cousins on both sides of my family, as well as my father-in-law who was a prison chaplain for over 20 years. But even they never acted like they were in the know on how it really is in all prisons everywhere.

I teach high school in a detention centre. Walk in and out 195 days a year.
You know what they say, you only serve two days. The day you walk in and the day you walk out.
