Lone Star on FOX

I read that this was one of the best new shows this year but it really wasn't anything special. Jon Voight didn't have much to do and the lead is bland as Wonderbread. I wonder if network/primetime television is the best thing for a show like this. How are they going to maintain whatever it is that they are planning for 20+ episodes? I think an HBO/FX run of 13 episodes would help but who knows. I'll stick for a few more episodes and see what's coming up. More Voight please!

It was well acted. And the premise is good. But i agree, i don't know how this is a series. It would make for a good movie.

Judging by the premiere ratings, it won't be a series for very long.

I DVRed the pilot while I watched Hawaii Five-O. Looks like I didn't miss much.
Because it didn't get good ratings?

I'm willing to bet it's 10x the show that crap Hawaii 5-0 show is.

Yeah, the show itself was really good. Dallas by way of Friday Night Lights. And I thought the lead guy was great.

I have to say I enjoyed this alot. The last scene took me by surprise. I will continue to watch.

I also like that crap show Hawaii 5-0.

Man Tati, did Hawaii Five-O break into your house and piss in your Kool-Aid or something?

My comment was in reference to Boris' "not anything special" and your "I don't know how this is a series," by the way.

I forgot to say while I did find the show interesting, I'm not sure how long I'm going to care about this guy.

You don't have to worry about that anymore. First casualty of the season, as expected.
Sadly, i have a feeling Terriers will follow suit.
Terriers shot a full season, as is par for the course with cable, I believe.

Damn shame especially knowing that Hawaii Five-O will have many, many years of success and most importantly... syndication!

Yes. Shawn Ryan mentioned it on his twitter. We get 13 episodes at least.

FX is pretty good with it's shows. From what I recall Damages didn't get great ratings, and that show is still going.

You're being that guy. Don't be that guy.

Interesting article. Podcast with Shawn ryan is a good listen as well.

Given that the one show that got through the broadcast network filtering process died a quick death, will next year's crop of shows be even worse? I fear that may be the case. I hope I'm wrong, but well before the death of 'Lone Star,' I had deep misgivings about the network show-creation process in general.

But it hurts!

I thought "Outlaw" would be the first casualty of the new season because that show stinks. But I guess NBC is forced to have more patience.
Too bad. But there's so much worse than Hawaii 5-0 on any network. The amount of shit on Fox is staggering.
I really thought that 'Outsourced' would be the first show cancelled.

I wonder if it's the same reason I just couldn't get myself interested in watching more. I like the idea of a network con artist TV show I just didn't want to get caught up in something that looked like it's major premise was a guy juggling two women. That just doesn't really interest me as an ongoing story arc.

Plus, from the bit I saw of the pilot it just seemed too serious (I only watched about 10 minutes of it though).

I do hope Hawaii 5-0 gets canceled as well though. Simply because with the number of people killed in every episode the entire island population will be dead and there will be nothing but graves everywhere.

That's pretty much what I meant when I said I wasn't sure how long I could care about this guy. Damn though, that was a quick death.

Firewall and Iceberg also brought up the point that not many people were interested in seeing a guy stealing life savings in this economic climate.
Cable, but Leverage, and to an extent White Collar, have people running all sorts of cons. Of course, the guys doing it are out to get the bad guys, and both are pretty darn fun.

That's all the shows about con artists that I need.
Two shows I really like, and while I understand the people that didn't want to see him steal in our current economic climate, it seemed to me we entered the story when he was about to turn that around and start making money for people.

What I didn't think I would be able to watch weekly was a bigamist getting away with well, being a bigamist.

I hope so, because I want to see Grace Park in that bikini for many years to come!
