HIMYM season 6

Pretty good season opener that was a little more serious than funny. I was afraid I would tire of Barney's antics, but he still is as sleazy/charming as ever.

Hope this season continues on at a good pace.

"Derection." Heh.

I'm guessing this future wedding is going to be a running flash-forward reveal this season, Lost-style.
I don't know if I like where this is going. It seemed like they are suggesting that Barney is going to get married before Ted, that really should be the moment that Ted kills himself (think about it, Barney getting married before Ted).
Clearly its Barney and Robin that are getting married.
I'm kind of a Barney & Robin fanboy (kill me) so I wouldn't care in the slightest if that's who it turned out to be.

The "dibs" bit was great.

And Bilson's lesbian family resolution was really sweet.

I hope the show wouldn't be that obvious.

It was nice seeing the characters again. I like the characters so much that I can get by with just their awesome group dynamics most of the time. The episode itself felt very light, but it was full of great moments.

It definitely feels like Ted, Robin and Barney are the three core characters now, with Marshall and Lily on the periphery.

Yeah, after being telegraphed so heavy handedly I'd actually be surprised if it was Barney and Robin that were getting married there...although, not surprised in a good way!
Nto a bad episode at all, but I doubrt we have more than 1 or 2 seasons left. Quit while you're ahead. How long are their contracts?
I feel like this show is becoming like Friends. A show with funny, likable characters, but not a show that's particularly funny in itself.

old cell phone gags. waste of an episode.
No shit. What a boring peisode.
The only parts of the episode I really liked were the return of Teddy Westside and Barney with the vocoder at the end.

Couldn't agree more.

It's pretty concerning that THIS was the second episode.

This was like mid season bullshit filler.
I really liked it. Loved Barney running across camera trying to get his Dad's attention.
I didn't really like it, but attempts to give depth to Barney's character almost always fall flat with me.
I feel like it would be a lot better received if the B and C stories were stronger (being the Lily & Marshall lying to their kids and Ted & Robin's phone email adventures plots). It really needed some downright funny stuff to balance the sweetness of Barney's story, and those sideplots didn't deliver.
That said, Neil Patrick Harris once again showed what a gifted physical comedian he is. DAD LOOK HOW FAST I RUN

Postmaster General. Ben Fucking Vereen.

And that one flashback of Barney's mom dressed up as Santa not only played off the Lily/Marshall subplot but was incredibly sweet in itself.

Another lackluster episode. Seems all the gang is just going through the motions. That being said, I did enjoy the Lilly karate school bits.
Funny, I thought the Lily stuff was the weakest. Marshall (almost) redeeming himself as wingman was the highlight. And gotta love Robin's drunk-dialing.
Yeah, thought the "Asian slut on facebook" bit was the funniest part in a relatively weak episode.

Almost redeemed by the Real Estate song at the end though!
Excellent episode. Loved the use of the Woody Allen font.
Man, that was epic.

And, I still maintain that it's amazing Marshall is still alive after all these years.
That episode was pure, mad cap genius. Between the song about Marshall vs. the Machines, Barney talking about how great life is, and Maury Povich popping up constantly I just couldn't stop laughing.

HIMYM's take on the Great American Race was pretty great. Marshall's folk song was indeed hilarious... it kind of sounded like a Crash Test Dummies song.

Also, for Robin's achievements they used the New Yorker Magazine's masthead font.

I might be wrong, but I could swear that was NPH singing it.

Pretty sure it was Segel.

The only negative was the horrible BING websearch ad.

Is this just to show that only a jackass like TED actually uses Bing? I honestly forgot the website existed until last night.
I'm pretty sure whenever there's an original in-show song, Segel does it. cat funeral.... cat funeral....

The Bing thing stuck out like a sore thumb. Had to be sponsored.

Mixed with an episode of 24. I also thought of Crash Test Dummies.

Great episode.
I didn't think the episode was funny at all. I still feel like the characters are funny, but the situations their in (as well as the writing) is not.

well it's nice to see Jennifer Morrison from HOUSE back on tv.

and I will say Ted in a wizard outfit is funny.
Good episode. Right back on track.

small penis....
The last two have been gold. It took them awhile to get going this season but it's picking up. I suspect they have this season and one more in them.
It kinda killed me that as soon as he realized she was married he stopped giving two shits about the building, and even threw in Barney's "Who said anything about snakes" line. They have Ted built as such a namby pamby goody two shoes that when he's a bit of a prick it's hilarious.
Jason Segel gave one of his all-time best performances in the restaurant where he was sweaty and twitchy. I've thought this for a long time: Come and enjoy NPH because he's brilliant, but stay for Jason Segel. Man is fearless.
I also loved his being the odd man out in the Had Sex With Robin conversation at the end.
Esther the stripper and Robin wielding a samurai sword was awesome, and they are so totally going somewhere with Barney and Robin, the sparks were really flying there. Dug that Ted was a little turned off by how independent Robin is while it turned Barney on.
Yes, some really terrific moments for Smulders this week.

I'd love to see how the talk with the censors went determining what could and couldn't be shown in the "Esther" scenes. "That WAS my card!"

Am I the last person to notice that's Suzie Plakson as Judy? Marshall's mom is a Klingon!

And was that purple handprint a callback to Season 1 Episode 1? Amazing.

agreed that was a good episode. HIMYM is doing a lot right this season as opposed to last year.
The whole computer scene with Marshal had to be a rehash of the scene from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but it was still funny.

YUP I noticed that too.

All the Esther stuff KILLED me. The confetti pop at the end!
Can't leave out creepy future plastic-surgery-disaster Barney. Ggghh.
I actually seriously found that to be more disturbing than funny.

As a Buffy fan, I liked that Tara was suggested as a name.
As a Buffy fan, I'm ashamed to admit I completely missed that one.
Great episode. Weird to watch it with my 3 days old daughter asleep on me.

This week wasn't so great.. but at least Randy's beer was successful.
I liked that episode. Not as much as last week, but come on! A Cobra Kai costume!
I liked it well enough but the show just doesn't seem to have it's rhythm like it used too. I think they're really stuck in a place where you want to keep the status quo to keep a successful show going but the show at its heart is about these people growing up so they end up writing funny episodes that just don't resonate the way they used to. Robin doing that commercial just seems like something that character never would have done a couple years ago and I don't think they really earned what is essentially her being at rock bottom or sold it well. If she's so ashamed of doing the commercial why would she have done it?

And I hope they never bring Forte back. I like him well enough but both time's Randy has been on the show just hasn't worked much for me.
