Relax Martin, he was joking.

I also loved Eller. He's gonna stay in the first 2 lines I think.
I'd rather he play center be he sure is better than Pourriot.

But I never knew I'd miss Marc-Andr. Bergeron, but that slap-shot...
Oh please no! Bergeron has a great shot but he doesn't have Souray or Streit's quick release. by the end of the season opposing teams adapted and he couldn't score. Only two goals and four assits in the playoffs despite playing all the powerplay minutes. Also, he finished with a minus 12, the worst differential of all the playoffs. Fuck I hate that player. I've never seen a defenseman so afraid to go in the corners and I've seen Brisebois play 14 seasons in Montréal.

The Globe and Mail this morning: LEAFS UNDEFEATED.

Not joking. They changed the title online this afternoon, but it's serious shit in Toronto. Shame that Kadri didn't make the team. Must not be physical enough for Burke...

Well, on our side we got White, who was the best player through camp who did not make the team because hey, Gauthier decided that contrary to all the other teams on the league since the cap was instated, the Habs would sign fourth string players like Darche, Halpern and Picard before camp instead of giving youngsters a try.

Come on guys...there has to be one more hockey fan here that wants to do fantasy hockey.

What would I have to do?
well I can say at least one time this year that the Hurricanes are #1 in the entire NHL.
Went to the Lightning home opener last night and had a great time. A buddy of mine won some luxury suite tickets and it made for one of the more memorable hockey moments of my life. Great to see Lecavalier get off the a good start after an unremarkable last season, hopefully that's just the first step to a return of his glory days. Overall the lightning looked good with the exception of a slow moving second period. So happy to see hockey back at last.

I meant what would I have to do in this fantasy league?

It's a hockey pool.

And WTF? Toronto: 2 wins. Penguins: 2 loses? Hurricanes on top?
I just joined. I'm the P-A-T (Pointe-aux-Trembles) Black Lungs.

Haha, yeah I was joking. Leafs are definitely a sub-par team (although if our defense ever lived up to their paycheques...) and making the play-offs this year is a stretch. I definitely wouldn't have traded two 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel, but what's done is done and looking forward we've got some really exciting young guys in the systems to build around right now.

And we're 2-0 after going 9 games last year without a win. The kids have some jump, we're getting a couple saves, and hockey is finally back. Even the most jaded Leafs fan has to be feeling a little good right now.
It is. I have friends in TO who are Leafs fan, and they went apeshit with Cup aspirartion. Hence I thought you were in the same boat as them.

Giguere stole the first game.

I lived there from when I was 10 to 19 years old. The smell I won't miss but the good paying jobs for working class citizens in the east I will miss.

Why is it everybody's playing games except the Habs? They don't play until wednesday!
So I guess the draft happened last night. I feel ok about my team for the most part. Especially if Tavares can get healthy. That having been said I think "Puttin' on the Foil" is the team to beat. Lots of talent on that team. Best of luck to everyone participating this season!
The Hurricanes don't play their third game until Thursday night against ottowa. Talk about a week long break. Way to ruin a good run.
I lost my yahoo email, so fuck that.

Wait, it's an automatic draft?
I have no clue. I recovered my account, tried to join the league, and it's not in pre-draft mode now. The ID won't work.

Automatic draft? WTF?????
I assume it was automatic, last time I looked at it yesterday morning it said the draft would happen between then and midnight on the 16th and now this morning I have a team. So either I missed it or the whole thing happened on its own.
That's retarded. What's the point of a pool if you can't pick your players? I didn't even know when the draft was.
well looks like Foligno is going to get fined and penalized for his head hit on Dwyer last night (which the refs didn't call, because they are idiots)

watch it here
First win at CONSOL and a beat down of the Cryers = A good weekend
post #77 of 197
Well, I've done decided that I'll wear my new Pens shirt I bought Friday for every home game from here on out.

What 6,706 fans look like at a Phoenix Coyotes home game

By Greg Wyshynski

Arizona Republic writer Sarah McLellan captured this image, five minutes into the second period, and others from the press box of last night's 4-2 Phoenix Coyotes' victory over the visiting Los Angeles Kings. Announced attendance: 6,706.

Even the mercurial Paul Bissonnette(notes) of the Coyotes had to chirp the locals about that gate:

Big win tonight. Had the crunch of the game. Thanks to the 5000 fans that showed up. Did people think it was 11 o'clock start?

The Coyotes sold out their first game of the season against the Detroit Red Wings, with plenty of Winged Wheels in the crowd. Phoenix Business Journal wrote that "a big test of the Coyotes attendance this season will be Thursday's home game against the Los Angeles Kings and a Saturday game in Glendale against the Carolina Hurricanes." Well, there's always Saturday.

This attendance plummet from Game 1 to Game 2 of the home schedule has become an unofficial tradition during the NHL's ownership of the team, which was placed into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009 as billionaire Jim Balsillie sought to move it to ... honestly, we simply don't have the bandwidth to recall that entire sad saga again.

From the Phoenix Business Journal in Oct. 2009, after the Coyotes' second home game:

The team announced attendance of 6,899 at Thursday's game against the St. Louis Blues, but personnel at the arena said they were told the crowd was between 5,000 and 6,000. The Coyotes won the game in overtime and are tied for first in the National Hockey League's Pacific Division.

The team, which is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is being operated by the NHL, drew 17,532 to Saturday's loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Coyotes lowered ticket prices for the home opener, but went back to regular prices for Thursday's game.

Phoenix didn't offer discounts that steep for this year's home opener.

The Coyotes aren't the only NHL team that suffered humiliation at the gate this week. The Blue Jackets drew an announced 9,802 fans vs. the Anaheim Ducks, which was the smallest home crowd in franchise history. The Atlanta Thrashers played in front of an announced 8,820 against the Buffalo Sabres.

It's the economy. It's October hockey on a weeknight. It's teams that either lost the fans' trust through a lack of success or through instability for the franchise's future in Phoenix's case (along with countless other demographic and geographic challenges in that market).

If these numbers aren't rising by December, then we've got a crisis. As it stands now, we've just got an embarrassment. Especially when Canadian journalists like Jeff Marek are given the chance to note that a Hamilton/Manitoba AHL game (6,116) nearly out-attended the Coyotes last night.
No no no. Gary Bettman said hockey was fine in the US, and I'll believe him before you!

And seriously, it's like that in Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta and Miami*. My guess is Atlanta and Phoenix will eventually end up in Quebec City and Winnipeg. Both deserves their franchise back. And fuck Hamilton. A franchise there will kill Buffalo.

*Except when the Canadiens plays there. Then it's sold out. Snowbirds.

I don't know if you read Spector's hockey but he's demonstrated quite often that Winnipeg cannot sustain a NHL franchise in the long term, probably not even in the mid-term.
Spector is hit and miss. He sometimes write retarded shit.

But I'll try to find his article. And Hamilton still ain't a good choice.
Carolina plays in Phoenix tonight.. I'll watch the game on tv and see if more people are in the stands since its a weekend game.

True about Hamilton. I don't think Ontario could support three teams. I'm not a HUGE NHL fan but it just seems that up North East Ontario (not Northern Ontario where Timmins and shit is) that you're either an Ottawa or Montreal fan. Go south you're a Toronto fan. Come down where I live you're either a Toronto, Buffalo or Detroit fan. Go South West and you're a Detroit fan (Windsor area). I don't think these life long fans of these teams are going to change they allegiance just because a team is closer. And I doubt a team out East could survive then too, huh?

That's what we're told. South Ontario either Leaf or Buffalo territory, with a fringe of Detroit there and there.

True. Still is better than fucking Phoenix though.

But his analysis for the Quebec City arena is so wrong. The main push for it is gonna be the Olympic bid they'll do. And Western Canada can't bitch because we all supported the Vancouver bid. They'll ride it with it. But I still think some private funds should be injected in it.

I'm with Léo-Paul Lauzon: if public funds build the arena, the CDP must also be a shareholder in the NHL franchise.
wow. Skinner was amazing last night for the Canes. If he keeps up this pace, he might be in the all-star game next year.

This is going to be one fun year for the hurricanes just watching Skinner play.
that Illya Kovalchuk shootless shootout is making the rounds on the internet today. Holy crap that's sad.
Tomas Vanek, R.J. Umberger, Mike Richards, Brenden Morrow, Shane Doan, Milan Hejduk, Ryan Smyth are nominated for the All-Star game but not Tomas Plekanec?

He's better than all of these guys! Even David Booth, who was nominated because the NHL didn't do shit when Richards smacked him illegally.

Fleury is nominated even he sucks dead donkey's ball but no Price (I know, I'm surprised too)?

Bullshit.

Richards is good. But Fleury, really?

Richard is good, but not better than Plekanec in the last 2 years.

Richards' got better stats than Plek in the last three seasons. He deserves to be there. The others, not so much.
There's not only stats involved. Plek is the only reason Cammalleri is on the ballots. He's the one who feed him. He's the first Habs players I'd nominate. Not that Richards isn't All-Star material, though not this year, so far.
Anyone would take Richards over Plekanec, to say plekanec is better then Richards is just unreal. Probably should be there instead of Cammaleri, right now. Who really cares about the all star game anyways, want another freakshow like in montreal where komisarek is a starting dman? Didn't Wendal Clark make it when he was like 40? The game is for little kids.

Staal should be suspended for his hit on Markov. But as usual in the NHL, he won't be.

for an unintentional knee to knee? Even then canadian announcers agreed it wasn't malicious. It's just a shame Markov is out for a long time.

(Personally, I'd love to see the Canes play without Staal to see if what we can do).

I disagree. Markov AND the puck go right and Staal goes left. Why isn't he playing the man or the puck? Why go aound left? Watch this at 1:17, if that's not a hit with intent, Staal sure doesn't try very hard to prevent the knee on knee. Considering everybody knows Markov already had two injuries to that knee, I seriously question if Staal seized an opportunity.

Some rumors are now saying that he may be out for the season and that his career may be in jeopardy. I fuking hate this. Markov came back earlier than planned and look where that got the Habs. The way injuries are managed in pro sports, you'd think they're still playing in the 60s where the players were paid peanuts. You'd think teams would want to protect their investments.

Fuck Staal. And Skinner's the real deal. Too bad the Canes are talentless beside these 2 and Ward. Sutter ain't bad, but hardly a impact player.

And Markov is a goner. Shame. He's gonna miss between 4 to 8 months. It's the same ligament as last spring. FUCK.

So Subban needs to learn "respect" apparently.

TSN Article

I've heard this a few times now and it just seems...weird. I understand there's a "code" etc, but certain players have and will always be of the shit-disturbing variety. I don't know if I really want to go "there", but does anyone else feel a slight racial undercurrent to to this whole thing? Or is Richards just being a whiner? (or both!)
