90's Draft: What You Can Do for Your Moderator

Hey everyone. I've been doing these drafts for a couple years now and I do so gladly for the enjoyment of my fellow Chewers. Everyone has always been very open with their gratitude and for me, that's enough.

However...I'm part of a committee here in Brooklyn as part of my daughter's school to solicit donations for a silent auction they're having to save their arts program. It isn't a secret that NYC schools are getting murdered by budget cuts and we need to raise as much money as we can to help the school fill in budget gaps.

So...if any of you have any interesting connections to businesses (know them, work for them, own them) that I could solicit for donations for this cause, a business who could provide an item for people at the event to bid on --- gift certificate, membership to something, etc. --- let me know. If you have any other ideas for donations or have something you think people may want to bid on, let me know. You can IM me.

I don't want to do something/ask for something, but this just seemed like an opportunity to leverage this community. I hope that's understood.

Many thanks.

I just saw that the school is in Propect Heights. I keep forgetting that we live right around the corner from each other (I'm on Vanderbilt and Dean). We probably have passed each on the street and not even known it.

Did my small part to combat the continuous be-shitting-upon of this country's education system.

Thanks all. Much appreciated.

Deev --- you still live where you and dev used to live? I didn't know that. Neighborhood has changed a lot since you guys first lived there.

Yeah, its almost unrecognizable. From Hot Bird to Le Gamin. Getting 40's at the corner bodega to getting martinis at The Vanderbilt. My running joke is that when I moved into the neighborhood, I was the only White person on the block. Now, I'm the only Black person.

That's pretty funny.

Love The Vanderbilt. Also love that they gave me gift certificates to donate to the school's silent auction.

It's a good neighborhood. Definitely gentrified but there's still a good mix of people, different races, backgrounds, economic standing, interests, etc.

Not to derail... But Kirby and Diva are making me really homesick right now.

Prospect Heights is rank #9 out of the 50 most livable neighborhoods in NYC!
