They need to have Lopez be the mentor, and Iovine the new judge.

Am I the only person who read the title and thought Eric Idle had been offered the part?

I saw most of season one of AI back in the day, and then quickly grew tired of the show. Soon that exhaustion turned to resentment and I've essentially been waiting with baited breath to see news of it's cancellation. I guess I might have to wait a bit longer to see that story pop up on the main page, but I have a suspicion that with Simon leaving the show might be on it's last legs

As for the new judges..

I don't really care for Lopez (I think she lacks charisma and screen presence) and I know nothing about Steven Tyler. On the surface that seems like it shouldn't matter, seeing as how I knew nothing about Simon before AI came out, but somehow I doubt either one of them will have what it takes to give an honest and forceful critique of the future cruise ship performers featured on the show.

I'm amazed that anyone can live that close to Boston and not know much about Stephen Tyler.

Lopez is boring. Boring and terrible, and I don't give a rats ass about her. As much as seeing a looped out half crazed and potentially off the wagon Stephen Tyler every week might interest me, he has nothing to add to this annual artist rip off pageant that occurs every year (and yes, I watch it, but it's begrudgingly, and similar to watching train wrecks).

The problem for the show is, you have Randy "You did your thing, dawg", or "I wasn't feeling that, dawg" Jackson, and two performers, who've never evaluated the talent of another performer. Getting Jimmy Iovine involved is smart, but put him out front, judging the performers, like he used to do when he was lower down at Interscope.

If I was recreating this show, the judges would be Jimmy Iovine, David Geffen, and Clive Davis, or at least three guys from similar backgrounds for finding talented musicians. Then, I would base the show out of actual writing musicians, not just pretty kids with good voices singing other peoples material.

Also, I should point out, no one would watch my show.
