The negative for Stanley Kubrick's debut feature, Fear and Desire, has been found and may be used to release the film for the first time ever on DVD.

Incredible news. There's a version of Fear and Desire available on Google Video, but the quality's so bad it's not really worth your time.

Fun factoid: Paul Mazursky got second billing.

Great to hear that this movie has been found and will be released.

I think that the "thought to be wiped DVR" will be the only way that certain movies in the future will be made available. Especially old horror movies that get the HD upgrade on tv, but don't get a dvd or Blu-ray, or what the future equivalent of that will be. If they film prints for them can't be found, that is.

Great news. I saw a really horrible quality VHS version of the film five or so years ago. Wasn't terribly impressed with the film (the godawful quality of the VHS tape was obviously a contributing factor) but I'd still be first in line to see a print of Kubrick's first.
