The Office Season 7 - Page 2

I didn't care for this one at all. In fact, apart from the opening of the premiere and the Sweeney Todd episode, this season has been a real slog for me.

Hmmm...is Darryl going to be the new manager?
Methinks thats a curve ball. Seemed a little too on the nose.

Also, Tim Olyphant officially makes everything better.
Setting up a rivalry between Andy and Darryl maybe?

This show is booooring. Why am I still watching it!?

Jim coming back as Popeye was cute though.
Definitely setting up a mystery as to who the new manager will be. Sorta sucks for them that Gabe's Lady Gaga was completely upstaged by The Dean on Community. The big problem is that the writer don't care about Jim and Pam anymore so even the Popeye bit fell flat. It's great that they are establishing new characters, but the show acts like Jim and Pam are leaving as well.

Opening bit was pretty good.
I have to say that I'm sort of sick of Jim and Pam in total. Every moment their little arc with Olyphant played out on screen made me fucking cringe. The episode had its moments-- I am not ashamed to admit that the opening had me in stitches-- but boy does this series need a shot in the arm to become really interesting again.

Between Michael being a completely clueless, hateful sociopath and Jim and Pam's relentless narcissism, I'd have no problem with them leaving and re-tooling the entire thing. Or just letting it die altogether.

I mean, was it just so unbelievable that a character like Olyphant's wouldn't return a call to someone like Pam? "I just have to know, or it'll keep eating away at me!" Jesus, Pam.
Yeah, exactly. If the intent of that plot line is to make us utterly despise Jim and Pam, then bravo, genius, it fucking worked. Michael long has been hampered by really inconsistent writing that pegs him as either just a clueless schmuck (with a good heart) or kind of a raging douchebag; at this point I sort of accept that as part of the show. Jim and Pam have only recently (in the show's life) started to become a pair of irritating assholes, though.

Maybe the show is building up to somebody finally bitch-slapping them for being offensively self-absorbed. Hopefully by Olyphant. If the entire show becomes retooled around Olyphant and Robinson I'd be really happy.
Boy, that Jim/Pam mini-arc was painfully irritating. What a waste of Olyphant. I'm really looking forward to that retooling.

I'd be sad to see The Office die completely - I think even when its not at its best (and it hasn't been anywhere close for a couple seasons now), its still a fairly solid show that generates more than enough chuckles on a weekly basis to justify its existence. That said, I agree with those saying Jim and Pam have been really grating lately and Michael's shtick has grown tiresome.
I was really hoping Olyphants character was going to stir shit up for Pam and Jim... maybe actually have them act like a real couple who have "problems". I used to love them, but ever since their wedding, they have just become annoying. I think there best scenes were when they first started dating, and played off of Jans, and Michaels relationship. The "Dinner Party" episode is still one of my favorites for that reason.
Would it have been so out of line, to have TOs character turn out to be a sort of a asshole. Maybe he slept with Pam, and never called her back cause he was that way. And have Jim be mad because he thought Pam was smarter then that... IDk, just something other then what we got...

It was the best part of the whole boring 24 minutes. They need to get back to whole shows with those kinds of bits. Shirtless Andy was the cherry on top.

It really (REALLY) seemed like they were going that direction, too. When they were having the awkward 3 way conversation and Olyphant was saying "That doesn't sound like me..." I thought it was building up to Jim finding out Pam had lied to him. Even her reaction seemed to feed into that. Maybe that will still end up being the case but it sure didn't look like it.

The biggest laugh for me in this episode after the opening was when Erin was bobbing for apple's and Ryan's reaction to her.

Gabe was hotter, though.

I had no idea.

Yeah, that was a bit of an eye-opener.
More like a fly-opener, am I right? Am I right?
Agree that the opening was amazing. That monitor box really got me.

Also, Nurse Angela. YES.
Every time I watch this show I keep thinking: "I like these actors, I'd like to see them in something else." These characters are just spinning their wheels.

I have a really stupid question. All Tv shows display LOTS of halloween decorations on homes and offices. Does that really happen?
Do office buildings go to those extents? Do people really go to work dressed up?

I did. Angela Kinsey's been stealth-sexy for awhile. To me, at least.

Not to the extent you usually see on sitcoms, but yeah, some of the houses in my neighborhood seem to have Modern Family budgets for lawn decorations.
And how long do they have it up for? Seems like quite a budget for a night.
More than a week before Halloween, usually. It still pales to the gaudiness of the Christmas decorations, though, which usually start going up the day after Thanksgiving.
My own office used to get decorated to the nines until turnover hit, we lost a bunch of employees, and things got less fun. Recently the prime mover behind seasonal decoration decided to push a live human being out of her body and she's out on leave, so the workplace is a bit bare at present.

The houses on my street, on the other hand...some of them are pretty festive.

Two! I ate two whole apples! This and her insane creepy mask (with just a normal dress lol?) were great.

Good epísode. Not great. But some bright spots.
It would've been so great if this was Carrell's last episode. But what ended up happening just makes too much sense.

I honestly thought he'd get caught up in the whole scene for the rest of the episode, and we'd see some sort of illegal-immigration bit for the kicker where he had to deal with a "coyote" in Mexico...or have him trying to mail himself to Scranton.

But like you said, McNooj...what happened made a ton of sense. Especially since one of the kids joined them.
I was afraid it was going to turn into yet another episode where Michael feels slighted and ruins everyone else's fun, but thankfully they went in a different direction. And I loved Toby's pitiful plea in front of the stained-glass window.

Yes. My office goes nuts for Halloween. And, yeah, everyone dresses up. I'd toss up some pictures, but I don't need them floating out on the Internetz for the rest of eternity.

I have to say that I feel like this season is the equivalent of Scrub's Season 8. While I don't think The Office ever fell as far as Scrubs did, this season feels like a victory lap. It's quietly redeeming itself after the boredom of last season. In other words, this season feels like an improvement. I'm enjoying it, but it should be the last season.
Really? I thought that was probably the worst episode they ever did. The only bright spot was Toby's 60 second G-plot.

That's how I feel too. It's been a really great show, they did amazing work, now they should quit while they're ahead and end while things are still remotely funny. Especially if they aren't even going to have Michael anymore, sometimes you need to know when to let a good thing die.

That was the highlight for me too. "Why do you always have to be so mean to me?"

This is an American TV show, they aren't going to quit anytime soon.

Kelly bitches about GLEE's sloppiness while being obsessed with it at the same time. Of course.

I hate Gabe, but I love his soundscapes. Discuss.

Hey, whaddya know, they're back in stride.
This entire episode would have played better if Michael's outburst had to do with his dislike for Gabe instead of his dislike of not being the center of attention. Gabe, taking away the remote and changing the volume and telling Michael how to make a pizza and not letting Michael get his way, frankly could have been anyone from the cast. Yeah, we're told that Michael just doesn't like Gabe but nothing about the episode's plot has anything to do with Michael disliking Gabe anymore than it has to do with Michael being a giant baby.

It's a shame because his moment with Erin at the end could have been wonderful if the episode preceding it actually and genuinely built on Michael's disdain for Gabe. But Gabe isn't a particularly real character and the writing doesn't do enough to foster the idea that Michael dislikes Gabe for Gabe rather than for the more generic reason that Gabe's presence takes the spotlight off of Michael. The shit of it is that Gabe is a whiny, irritating twerp of a man so making us believe that Michael really just hates him because of who he is rather than what he represents wouldn't be all that difficult.
I thought Michael was being an assclown because he resented that the office saw Gabe as being the boss, so Michael wanted to undermine Gabe by ruining his party/belittling his efforts.

That having been said, I agree, it was a pretty sucky episode overall.
For a split second, I actually thought, "Wait, is Erin actually Michael's daughter!? It makes so much sens---- oh..."
I may be alone in this. But i think this show might be better off without the Michael character.

Ha! I was going to post the same thing.

Also, I've never watched Glee but this episode did a really good job of convincing me I would hate it. More than the previews and everything I've heard about it have convinced me, and that's saying something.

I figured they were coyly commenting on how Kelly was a completely different character for the first few episodes of the Office.

Weak episode overall, but the pizza scene between Dwight and Jim was pretty great.

I agree - but I fear that the attitude will be "Lets replace wacky Michael with an even CRAZIER manager!!!" He should leave and let the characters we like pull together and attempt to make the show work on it's past strengths. Jim was already co-manager, so why isn't he filling the void again?
Ever watched a recently divorced out of shape 60 year old guy trying to re-join the dating scene? Looks a lot like this episode/season.
This is my problem with the show. They make it look like a character will go off in a new direction, but then things go back to normal: Dwight might start dating Pam's sister, Michael and Jim as co-mangers, Ryan's promotion etc. I think they could have done more with the co-mangers story line. Jim starting to act like Michael, and seeing things from his point of view would have been great material. Instead they just did a couple of episodes with it.
