CAPTAIN AMERICAN KICKING ASS IN THE STREETS

Set photos emerge and Chris Evans is in them!

Holy shit, he's fucking huge!
I'll repeat that I hate The Avengers tie-in bullshit, but yeah, those stills and Evans are giving me a hard-on.
If any of these stories lend themselves to Avengers tie in bullshit - the story of Captain America can fit that in a lot more neatly then something like Iron Man 2 I think.
I hope that's post-serum. If not, I hate to think how bicepy he'd be AFTER.

Super Soldier Serum = Powerthirst (RAWberry)
Holy beefcake! Great for the role, but that's just too big.
If you fancy a chuckle, head on over to the Superherohype boards where folk are complaining that he isn't quite blonde enough.

He's certainly more blonde than he was as J Storm.
I hope "Captain American" and "Steve Rodgers" are honest typos and not some attempt to be disdainful of the property.

Not blond enough? Were they hoping for an albino Captain America? They should be happy Chis Evans was able to aquire pseudo-elephantitis for the role.
Fucking hell, Chris Evans looks like Edward Cullen with that makeup.

A manly Edward Cullen.
Welcome to the gun show indeed. His arms look freakin huge.
All the better to crush Nazi scum with.

ETA:Fixed typo.
Very, very excited for this. Everything I'm seeing is just ramping up my anticipation. Between this and X-Men: First Class, I'm loving the return to period-specific superhero flicks.

That's like Thor huge. It does look like they got to be about the same size, though Hemsworth is taller I believe.
With that hair and makeup, he reminds me of a JC Leyendecker illustration. And that's kinda perfect, time-period-wise.

I think Hemsworth is a good bit taller. It's odd, with Evans it seems to be all in his arms. Whereas Hemsworth's chest is enormous. It's incredible in both cases.

Evans is really rocking the Kirby hairstyle.

The fanboy weirdos over there will always find something to complain about. He looks the part with that blondish hair (wig?) and super hero physique.
All that bulk might make the costume look a bit too huge, though. We'll see.

Been looking for this for an hour

Love the appearence of that 40s set. Looks very real and "lived in". Was that constructed for the film or was it an existing enviroment on a sound stage somewhere?

As for Evan's arms.. too big, IMHO. I've seen photos of my dad's army friends back in the 40s, and they were all scrawny. Coming out of the depression, people did not grow up with great nutrition and could not have developed muscles that large unless they spent all their free time interning for Mr Atlas or something

And finally.. Safety feet?! I've never heard of something so wacky in my life. Hasn't Hollywood heard of the barefoot running movement? Since Mr America seems to be located on a sandy beach when using those "safety feet", his feet would actually probably be better off if he didn't wear shoes -- the structure of the foot is quite adept at absorbing shock. The human foot evolved to run without shoes just fine, and I can only assume that those clumsy looking "safety feet" pose greater risk for injury to the actor than if he'd simply gone without (not to mention that in the age of HD he's going to end up looking like a hobbit)

How many of your dad's army friends had a Super Soldier Serum?

From what I read in the thread, there seems to be uncertainty about whether or not those photos depict pre serum Evans. If it's post serum, I have no complaints with his arms

Chris Evans, AKA Buff McHuge.
I cannot wait to see, Cap...in costume. It definitely seems like, Captain America will be able to throw...His Mighty Shield, through anything...HYDRA, throws at him!
I just can not wait for this. It's interesting how apprehensive people were about Captain America. But it really looks like it's being treated well.

Man, it's a good time to be a geek.

ETA. I'm actually sat in a Cap T-Shirt and didn't even realise it!

The safety feet are because there's glass and gravel everywhere, and probably only for wides.

Thanks, Renn. I appreciate the clarification. I'd never heard of such a thing outside of the hobbit films before, but if there is glass, then I totally get it.
I can't believe there could even be any debate whatsoever as to whether or not this is supposed to be post-serum.
You only wear that t-shirt post-serum.

Lady in a Bar: Oh my God, look at that guy...he's so post-serum.

Friend: Go talk to him!

Lady in a Bar: Nooooo!
Didn't the creators say they'd work backwards, i.e. film all the post-serum scenes first then give Evans a chance to uh...bulk-down? For the earlier scenes? Or am I just crazy?

Very cool cars, though I'm curious if this means we'll get some Cap v.s. Al Capone-gangsters action.
No I think they're just using special effects to make him look sickly.
Evans needs to change his name to Punch Rockgroin or perhaps Slate Slabrock.
What about Lucas Lee?
The feet are giving me flashbacks to the fake ears from the 90s movie.

It's actually the real architecture of a certain area in Manchester, just with 1940s looking livery applied.

The place basically looks like Brooklyn, with smaller buildings.

I have a friend who lives in Manchester and we laughed for a day when Johnston said (paraphrase) "It's not just the cost, Manchester today looks like New York in the forties" Way to impress the locals Joe

Heh, it's the same for Liverpool, some of this being shot there, as was the recent Sherlock Holmes because some areas still look like a Victorian Slum.

Anyway, that's quite a transformation, he looks completely different from Lucas Lee. I'm inordinately excited to see a big budget period set superhero film.

My affinity for period New York makes me biased, but I say Manchester should take that as a compliment.
Bruce Willis wore 'safety feet' in the first "Die Hard". There are a few shots when he's on top of the skyscraper where they're pretty obvious. So it really isn't a new thing.

I think it's the same for any British city. There are always areas which, for some reason seem to be stuck in the past. Gloucester is full of them, and different time periods too.

Very cool, thanks for the info! Great set design, as I couldn't tell if it was a real location or a giant ROME like artificial outdoor enviroment
