I never bought the dvd since it's non-anamorphic. I bought the HD-DVD earlier this year for about $5 on Amazon just to have it in HD.

Glad to hear the SE that was on Laserdisc, and that's been one of the most requested releases on DVD will be put out. Hopefully also on Blu-ray.

nice

the current HD editions are shitty transfers. This should be ace with Criterion

There is a region 2 special edition DVD, with the commentary. Criterion will top this, obviously, but it's out there...

I feel like I've been hearing about a new Criterion release of The Game for the past decade now. A blu-ray should be nice.

Oh damn, there's another Blu-Ray I have to buy in October.

I really liked The Game back when it was first released, I even liked the ending (insane logistics be damned). It looks like with this, Se7en, and the Alien Anthology getting released so close to each other that October is going to the month of Fincher.

Ooooh, happy day!

I remember seeing the ads for The Game on tv and it looked like a great thriller, but it wasn't until about 4 or 5 years ago that I finally saw it. Great twists and it really plays out like a paranoid 70's movie.

The Game was the first psychological thriller that I remember watching, or at least it's the one that made the biggest impact on a younger me. I remember watching it and being blown away by the ending. When I saw it, I had no idea who David Fincher was, and I don't think I had seen Michael Douglas in much (I was seventeen at the time. I didn't develop into a film fan til my mid twenties). I'm glad to see this is getting a great DVD.

It's a flawed film but it has some crackerjack sequences that make clear the film is helmed by a true master. Specifically I'd point to the sequence where Douglass notices that the people in the picture frames are cut outs from magazines and there is a price tag from the lamp shade burning on the light bulb.. chilling stuff

If Criterion tries their hand at a GAME disc, I have no doubt it would be worth while. Sadly I'm super poor these days and no longer buy DVDs, really, but it's nice knowing that I can still at least get it out of the library or something
