MARK RUFFALO TO HULK OUT MORE THAN NORTON OR BANA

The man talks about doing mo-cap.

I'm surprised that Bana nor Norton did the mo-cap themselves. I would think that'll be a blast!

Let's hope the that Ruffalo manages to give a little bit of humanity to the Hulk's performance
Agreed. One of my biggest problems with the previous movies is the disconnect between Banner and the CGI Hulk. Hopefully this will help alleviate some of that.

Fascinating! Ruffalo as Hulk frankly interests me much more than Ruffalo as Banner. Obviously he's less than accurate when he claims that "no one has ever played Hulk before" (Ang Lee did the mocap for green beast in the original film) but all the same I'm curious to see what he has in store. Ruffalo's on screen persona is always very chill and relaxed (or 'chillaxed', if you don't mind me using that word), so I'm more than a little curious about what hidden reserves of anger he may tap for this new role. Even when Ruffalo plays distraught (like in ALL THE KINGS MEN), he rarely rants or rages. Hulk should be a challenge but if Marvel has decided that the actor himself should mocap the part then clearly they think he brings something special to the table

I wonder if he is going to do the facial work as well, a la Gollum? I hope so, because that just adds an extra layer of realism to the performance. It's going to be interesting to see what Ruffalo does with the character. He seems to be an unconventional choice, but the dude's a great actor.

You know what, I think one of the flaws of both the Bana/Norton Hulks was that they were TOO humanized... I want to see a Hulk onscreen that is less jolly green giant and more T-Rex. Inhuman, not just a big guy with green skin, but maybe skin that is animal looking: dripping/scaly, he should be a distorted version of humanity, angry and terrifying - not an overgrown hurt child...

I can understand why in a solo Hulk movie you want the Hulk to be likeable, but as part of an ensemble you can make him a true monster.

Ang Lee wanted to do it himself.

Exactly. There was nothing of Banner in those CGI creations... felt like he was just some big bland monster taken from another film. Although of course who knows how much time they'll actually focus on the character with all of the other guys to take care of.

That's really cool. Norton actually did do some of his own (video here) and, like Phil said, Ang Lee did it, too, but this sounds like actual on-set interaction. Can't wait to see how it looks, and how much the Hulk will actually look like Ruffalo.

This is nothing but good news, can't wait to see the outcome.

I don't think that's entirely accurate, BanaHulk resembled his human counterpart quite a bit.

Exactly! That's what worked so well about the Avengers + Hulk. That's why stand-alone Hulk movies don't work.

It took the comics 42 years to figure out how to use Hulk as the CORE of a more epic story and make it REALLY WORK. (Planet Hulk)

I've got high hopes for this Hulk. Really, it won't take too much to make it the best film Hulk. The competition isn't steep.

Yeah, I was gonna say that IMDb trivia claims Norton did mo-cap with Roth (complete with a quote from Roth).

I doubt they are hiring Ruffalo to be a one liner Banner. They went after Ruffalo as their first option BTW.

Although I'm still disappointed that Norton won't get to reprise his role as Banner, I like Raffalo and I think he'll play a great Dr. Bruce Banner. With the technology we have at our dispose (as seemed in movies like Avatar), I thik the chance to make Hulk look as realistic and as close to his human counterpart may finally be there. Looks like Hulk will not just be used as a cheap cameo in the Avengers movie.

If they can reproduce' his presence or quirks (see Zodiac, Bros Bloom Shutter Island) as Hulk it would be great.
