A TRULY GRITTY TRAILER

Teaser for the Coen Brothers' next.

The song is called "Where No One Stands Alone" by The Peasall Sisters. It's on iTunes.

Great song, great trailer. I can't wait.

God damn, Jeff Bridges looks fantastic. Hardly recognized him at first. Point: Bridges.

I like Ms. Steinfeld more than Kim Darby in the role already. Bring it on!
That shot of Bridges's face with the snow falling is astonishing.
Awesome.
Wow. I tend to complain about all the remakes out there, but the Coens doing TRUE GRIT always sounded like a good idea, & after that teaser I am fucking pumped to see it. Between this & BLACK SWAN, December is gonna be a mighty fine time at the movies.

I remember a few years ago (immediately post-LADYKILLERS, IIRC), Russ wrote an open letter to the Coen Bros. on the main page & suggested that they take a couple years to recharge themselves, creatively speaking. Kinda neat that they apparently did, & that they've been on a roll ever since.

Also, does this mean that Josh Brolin is going to be one of the Coen regulars now? Nice!

edit: grammar

That was one spectacular teaser!
Goddamn it, those screencaps are gorgeous.
HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP. My most anticipated of the year, and it has some gorgeous looking stuff in it. Wow. Yeah, that shot of Bridges in the snow. And the brief scenes of action on horseback looked incredible.

Christmas cannot come soon enough.
That is one big, honking bag of awesomeness.
IS there any possible way this movie could not be awesome? Coens, Daniels, Damon, Brolin....guns
post #12 of 37
that gave me chills
Yeah . . . I still need some time to comprehend that Matt Damon is in a Coen Brothers' film. That is a western. With Jeff Bridges. And Josh Brolin.
Damn, that's a beautiful little trailer.
Expectations: matched.

And thank you for those screencaps that will now be my desktop wallpaper.
I still don't have a clear winner for my favorite film of 2010. I want this to be it.

ECSTASY
That was amazing. I just can't believe how much I am looking forward to this.
I am so conflicted. The movie looks great. But no John Wayne. Really looking forward to this one.
Looks like a good period Western. Thank God.
And Bridges looks convincing as a guy who's about to keel over.
Oh...oh my. I think I have a case of the vapors.
I just showed it to my dad who is a hardcore John Wayne fan and he was really impressed. He couldn't believe it was Jeff Bridges under that eyepatch and beard.

I'm already declaring it the best movie of the year and my favorite movie of all time. I am super excited for this.

Technically, this means you're about to fart, not faint. Hollywood never did understand the phrase. But hey, depending on what you had for lunch, that's also an understandable reaction!

Lord that was one beautiful trailer. Deakins is some sort of Greek God of Photography walking the earth and having fun, isn't he.
Ahh, Deakins . . best shooter of desolate, haunting landscapes. Looks spectacular.
It's almost unfair how good this looks, like there's a finite amount of talent in the universe the Coen Bros and Deakins and the cast are using up an impossibly large amount of it
post #28 of 37
Wow, this one snuck up on me. For some reason I thought it wasn't due until next spring or fall. Needless to say, I'm glad I don't have to wait as long.

What I find really interesting is how much of this seems familiar.

I guess that after reading that the Cohen's were making their film more based on the book, I'd assumed there was a lot more differences between it and the '69 version. But I'm seeing a lot of visual callouts to Wayne's film, or at least I'm recognizing a lot of specific scenes from it in this trailer, so perhaps there isn't as much of a difference between '69 TRUE GRIT and the original source material.

Regardless, it looks wonderful.

Yeah, I'm glad to see the "reigns in the teeth" ride. Guess that's in the book?
The '69 film didn't really stray from the novel's plot so much as sanitize the characters a bit and tone down the violence. There was always the "Fill your hands, you son of a bitch" part where Rooster charges Ned Pepper's gang, so that might be the familiarity.

Am glad to see that they're evidently keeping the bookends, where we see Mattie as a grown woman telling her story.

Tingles, shivers, goosebumps and a lump in my throat.

There's nothing quite as special for me as a cinephile than a new masterpiece from those incredible brothers. The fact that its some of my very favorite actors such as Bridges and Damon and a gorgeous looking western is making me quite giddy.

***still wiping drool from mouth***
I actually applauded when this ended. So fucking excited.

Love it, love it. That shot of the girl in the early dawn light with the town behind her was my favourite.

Released on my birthday over here, nice.
Holy shit. I don't break out this quote for just about anyone, but they should have sent a poet. So beautiful.

Liked that shot, and all of them, really, but the standout for me was the matchlighting in darkness with the guy on the porch. Or Bridges in "Searchers" like framing in the mine(?) entrance. Or...or...

Looks like a masterpiece.
