The Naomi Watts Appreciation Thread

I guess I first became a fan of hers when I saw MULLHOLAND DRIVE (Like I guess the rest of us did), The way Watts played the Betty/Diane roles. Two diamatrically opposites versions of the same character really impressed me.

So I did a little research.

She's done lots of B-Movies. A Horror movie called THE SHAFT with Ron Perlman. Jet Girl in TANK GIRL.

What I like about Watts is that she has an intelligence to her. You can see it in her eyes. She's not WOWZA beautiful like Kidman or Eva Green, but Watts has this strong intelligent woman feel to her that I think we all can appreciate.

I doubt Watts will ever be a Superstar like Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie, but I doesn't matter to me since she's given us a steady stream of great performances.

I would like to see her headline an Action flick like WANTED OR SALT though. That would be interesting to watch.

Watts is great and needs to keep doing stuff that challenges her as an artist, not as a commercial entity (which is what Jolie's action roles are about).

She's got a lot of guts in a time when most stars are protecting their careers and their images almost fearfully. She used her clout from King Kong to produce a remake of Funny Games just so she could star in it. Think about that. How often over the course of the history of Hollywood have stars stuck their necks that far out?

Keep your eyes out on the ABC Family/Lifetime/Hallmark-type channels this holiday for The Christmas Wish, a low-rent Jerry Maguire knockoff starring Neil Patrick Harris and Naomi Watts, shot around the same time she did Mullholland Drive. It's all Betty, no Diane.

First off, I would disagree on her not being WOWZA beautiful I think she definitely is.

She's someone who is constantly picking good, diverse material, and brings really strong performances to them.

I love her in I Heart Huckabees.

Yeah, the scene in Huckabees where she's flubbing the commercial in existential depression is gut-busting. One of the best actresses around, but I really wish she'd do more comedy, cause she showed a real talent for it in Huckabees.

"FUCKABEES!"

I think I first really noticed how great she is in Innaritu's 21 Grams, where she's up against Penn and Del Toro and more than holds her own. She's the best thing about PJ's King Kong too, and I like that movie more than most.

She's one of the premiere league actresses in my book, right up there with Streep, Winslett and Blanchett.

The movie is kind of obnoxious, but Watts in ELLIE PARKER is a fucking fearless comedic performance.

the audition scene in Mulholland Dr. is just fantastic, first time I saw her in anything and I was just amazed by it. Saw it with a friend and when that scene was over we just looked at each other in silence, in awe of what we just saw.

Just saw FAIR GAME, and was impressed with her toughness.

She's a beautiful lady who can look horribly ugly through mere performance! Her audition scene... I had to adjust my sitting position afterwards...

She's great. Like the female Johnny Depp. She consistently chooses interesting projects or directors work with. When I hear people complain there aren't enough good parts for women, I look at someone like her and wonder why some other stuck in a rut Hollywood actresses can't do the same thing. Maybe they're more concerned with being on the covers of magazines or perhaps they just aren't fans of cinema and wouldn't know a good movie if it bit them on the ass.

[Ralph Wiggum] "I love Naomi Watts and when I grow up I'm going to marry her!" [/Ralph Wiggum]

Also, she's a tremendously talented actress. Yeah, Team Watts right here.

According to this article, Naomi Watts is the actress that gives "the most bang for the Studio's buck". The most cost efficent.

Liev Schreiber says the same thing.
