BECAUSE WE CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH KILLER SANTA MOVIES

A trailer hits for "Sint"!

The trailer started out so slowly, cycling through the usual modern horror movie/trailer cliches (flashlight over newspaper clippings!), but it picked up some steam at the end, adding the action elements. Looks to be a rental down the line for me.

Ohh, and just so people aren't confused, Black Christmas* is not a Killer Santa film, but a damn fine film all the same.

* I am speaking for the original. I haven't checked out the remake, but will be doing so this Xmas.

After getting down in the mouth about Sally Meneke passing away this cherked me up. So there are TWO killer Santa movies coming out soon? Is that right?

ETA: Yup. Rare Exports is the other one. This is gonna be a swell X mas!

Sooooo...which of these killer Santas has the edge? I'm placing my money on Rare Exports. I've seen The Lift. Not so much but there is some stuff to like there if not love. Guess I'll have to see if these get Stateside distribution (and they SHOULD dammit) before I make up my mind.

Dutch Santa!? Yes! I can only hope he's assisted in his nefarious doings by none other than Black Peter

Wow. The first half of the trailer REALLY rips off Halloween hard. The rest looks great.

How appropriate is that new avatar, Ripoll? Can't wait to read the Exhumed for that episode.

@ Kate: Maybe Crampus will lend a helping hand as well.

Silent night, holy shit. This is awesome. I didn't even think I deserved one killer Santa movie, let alone two. I can't imagine that either this or Rare Exports will add up to more than just schlocky B-fun, but that's all I want them to be: Nickxploitation.

Someone definitely needs to do a creepy Santa movie sometime that fully embraces all the weird local variations on the Sanata myth, because that stuff is hilarious

Since I'm doing some Fantastic Fest coverage for the site (hello), I figure I'll come out of lurker mode and announce that I literally just saw Rare Exports and can report that it kicks all kind of ass in a totally non-ironic, non-B-movie manner. I'll have a review soon enough.

Cool! Thanks for the update, Dr Hall!

Awesome response.

That trailer looks decent. By the way, The Lift is very good, but Dick Maas is also responsible for the great Dutch giallo/serial killer thriller Amsterdamned. That's one that deserves to be rediscovered (or just plain discovered) by old school slasher fans who fancy something a little different.

Maas' 'Amsterdamned' is indeed ripe for discovery.

More on topic: you'll note the vestimentary difference of this 'Sint' (which is short for the Dutch 'Sinterklaas') and Santa Claus. In fact, the American Santa Claus = Sinterklaas (or rather: a derivative from all the Saint-Nicholas myths in Northern Europe) + the British Father Christmas.
In Netherlands & Belgium, Saint-Nicholas has an image that is more rooted in Christian tradition, with the whole bishop apparel, and in several songs he is refered to as the 'good holy man'. The horse is actually his main means of transportation, after he's arrived from Spain (where he purportedly lives) by steamboat (don't ask).
He's also celebrated a bit earlier than Christmas (december 6th), so there's some competition going on- esp. now that Santa has been getting more popular the last few years.. A lot of parents just celebrate both nowadays.
The current paedophile priest scandals & the fact that Saint-Nicholas is still assisted by some slow-witted blackface helpers won't do him any good.

In any case, I predict some discerned parents come this december 5th... much more than Santa, St Nicholas is still a 'saint', and as such a symbol of devout purity and Christian kindheartedness.

Any British Chewers might be interested to know that this is playing at the Leeds International Film Festival, during their 'Day of the Dead' day.
