Damnation!

So, I guess it's official that Warner Bros. has the movie, and are making it for a paltry $40 million. That's all well and fine, and Clive's work deserves that type of treatment, but Sean Connery? Paul Newman? These are not name I associate with Barker's characters.

Any opinions?

To see of what it is I bable, read this.

Jackie Collins???

I loved Galilee SO much, especially after Sacrament which really kind fell flat for me, a huge bummer, since I've been a Barker fan since I was a wee lass.

I'm kinda psyched that this movie is getting this kind of backing, though I [i]am[i/] crossing my fingers it won't get the ultra Hollywood treatment.

Time for some Johnny thigh coldcuts!

Personally, I would never think this would be a good book to make into a movie.

It was and will probably be better on paper.
It may be another starship troopers.

"Take one element of the book and make it the movie."

I smell ass.

A lil sumpthin:

Since Johnny and I share the same habitation now, he logs in to the boards and I do right after, thusly, his name and password are still there and I don't notice until after I've gotten you all thinking he's a she, heh, SORRY!

As a hardcore Clive fan, I consider "Sacrament" to be one of his most thoughtful/personal books he's ever written. I hasten to compare it, in some ways, with Conrad's "Victory," though that may be faint praise.

"Galilee" isn't one of my faves, but of his recent obsessions with family histories (unproduced "American Horror" script, "Clive Barker's Undying," "Galilee," and other bits), it's the most complete of those thoughts.

"Coldheart Canyon" should be interesting.

Paul Newman and Sean Connery in "The Damnation Game?" I'll believe it when I see the first still from the set. If it happens, goddamn, what an amazing project that would be.

a while ago, Newman said he wanted to do one last GOOD movie and then retire. he's working with Oscar-winnering actor Tom Hanks and Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes on "The Road to Perdition", which i was given the impression would be his final film (until/unless he changes his mind). does anyone really think he's gonna go from that to an adaptation of a Clive Barker horror novel? i certainly do not...

You do have a point, Dave. I can't see that happening, either, but it really depends on the script I think.

As far as Clive's reputation as a "horror writer", I think he outgrew that quite a while ago, personally. He's said many times in many interviews and articles that he writes and creates things with horrific elements, but he's just a creative person. I've loved everything he's done, horror or not, and the fact that he's so consistently coming out with quality work is all that matters.

Barker is a great autor, but this movie coming out may not be true to his work.

I have seen many Stephen King movies suck ass compared to his books. I do not wish the same for the Damnation Game. It is a great book and has some really good elements that may never grace the big screen especially since there are some top named actors trying to hitch aboard.
