Putting on my studio executive hat for a minute, what cache exactly does the ALIEN franchise have with an 18 year old? Seeing as how you'd need that group to come out in force for a budget like that to justify itself, I'd gather the franchise is not so well known (or celebrated) to people under 20 for the most part.

Yes, that. It doesn't have built-in appeal for the youth crowd, and you can't even guarantee that older fans of the originals will turn out for it. It's a massive risk for that kind of cash.
