Don't let the door hit you on the way out

NOT A DAY TOO SOON

Rahm is leaving his post as White House COS. I was dubious about the appointment in the first place, but pledged to give him the benefit of the doubt. Instead he torpedoed the administration's agenda with his over cautious "Triangulation" which ended up spending nearly all of Obama's political capital.

IMHO, he's the worst COS since Andy Card, and that's saying something

EDIT: BTW, leaving the white house to run for Mayor of Chicago is a disaster for the Dems and for his boss. It makes the news story all about Rahm and Chicago politics. His tenure was an utter disaster, and now he's making sure to keep himself in the headlines now that he's gone too

Please, Kate, in your infinite wisdom, tell us who you would have chosen if you'd had the ear of the President.

It's obvious she would have chosen Larry the Cable Guy.

Bill Maher or the ghost of Alexander the Great, I'm guessing.

Or Emmy-nominated writer Lawrence O'Donnell, Jr, host of TLWWLOD.

I'm sure Cuch is gonna be all up in here soon with his hate-on for Rahm, and that's cool. I dislike a lot of what the guy's done, but he gets an unbelievably unfair amount of hate, especially lately. He's a fascinating political figure, and I'd love to read a biography of him someday.

The problems aren't with the underlings. The problems are with the man in charge.

That and an entire party built on pussification, centrist policies built to placate and win elections coupled with an atmosphere in this country that exists outside of something I like to call "reality". If I could use a quote to summarize the current state of affairs it would be this one:

"...political liberty is but a means to blind the masses to the real necessities of the times and to create artificial campaign issues, the solution of which is in reality of little consequence to the general welfare"

The presence or non-presence of Rahm Emmanual changes nothing.

Give her time to let Bill Maher and HuffPo tell her what to think.

Probably not a rockstar who insists on making himself the focus of every process story. (As in, Rahm)

I don't know who I'd have chosen, probably someone much like Mr Emanuel in terms of personality but his polar opposite in when it comes to politics.

Josh Lyman might have been a good choice, but I don't think he's even in government anymore.

EDIT: Rahm was recently called "a cancer on the Democratic party" and I'd have to agree. If asked to sum up the man and his career that's how I'd do it

The worst thing to ever happen to the Left and the Democratic Party in this country was the fucking West Wing. That, the DLC and Clinton's second term. We might as well cling to Three's Company for our ideology.

I'd have to completely disagree seeing as how President Obama was ripping off lines from THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT during the debates. If anything, we've not learned the lessons of THE WEST WING which are:

1) Make the argument even if you end up l
osing (this is the philosophy that lead to the 50 state strategy)

2) Don't apologise for your beliefs; explain them

I'm just in a very bitter and disillusioned place right now. I'm dealing with a personal issue that is frustrating and maddening and I keep seeing parallels between it and everything that is wrong with America today: The hate and racism, the manipulation of the populace by special interests to further economic agendas, endless warmongering, ineffective government bogged down by either electoral motivations or out and out corruption.

And the only people actually making any noise? The fucking Tea Party. Where is our LaFollete? Where is our Debs? Where is our Emma Goldman? This country is fucked because the only voice of dissent (that seems to get any media coverage. Ever wonder why THAT IS?) are a bunch of disenfranchised, angry, normal people being fooled into thinking what they're doing is in the best interests of the people. But we still have Kate leading the Obama Cult of Personality brigade! He'll save us! HOPE AND CHANGE! Here's the real message in Obama's election: We're hoping there's no change.

I have to agree with Kate, Rahm is a worthless asshole. There is some pretty extensive reportage concerning the fact that all he did was cockblock the left. No one ever saw him leaning hard on Republicans, as per his supposed image. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The worst since Andy Card? Slow down, Kate. I mean, Rahm Emanuel was certainly no Sherman Adams (overcoat scandal notwithstanding); but he was at least better than Hamilton Jordan, right? I mean, Rahm never made immature comments about the Egyptian Ambassador's wife's breast. At least not out loud.

And why do you think that is? It's been SOP in the Democratic Party since the late 80's to cockblock the Left.

And Rahm didn't do anything without the consent and support of his boss.

I think you're underestimating the position of Chief of Staff. The president isn't an all-knowing and all-seeing God Emperor, despite the desires of this country to make that position so.

But I've sort of given up on political analysis. I'm just gonna watch what happens from here on out, and hope for the best.
