More bad news from The Shire...

You know what is interesting?

As I was reading all of the bad news and recent set backs in this article I was hit by a sudden wave of positivity for the project. Funny, but a report about sets burning down have just made me 100% confident this film will get made, and made well.

Yikes, at least this news seems to be more an inconvenience than a major set back. All the same, each new problem they encounter makes me more and more nervous that they'll never actually get around to making the film. I hope that these reports of a January start date prove to be accurate

This is all the universe's way of telling us that Terry Gilliam should direct.

Yeah, but with Gilliam's luck if he signs on I'm pretty sure that someone's going to accidently drop a nuke on New Zealand or something.

If Gilliam signed to direct, the Zomibe apocalypse would start exactly 6 weeks, 6 days and 6 hours after the first frame is captured.

It would be neat to watch the segment of the mega special features on the extended DVD that deals with the zombies and how Weta's swordsmanship was so good the actors carried their "hero" swords around to defend themselves from the un-dead.

Jesus, talk about the death of a thousand cuts.

Look on the brightside. Wellington (where PJ and Weta are based) is right on a faultline and primed for a big quake, but when a Smaug-sized jolt did hit last month it was Christchurch which got whacked.

Which only goes to show that while the gods are throwing a few fireballs and Loki-esque mischief into proceedings they clearly don't want to mess the production all the way up.
