Go Phils!

AL:

Rangers vs. Tampa: Tampa

Yankees vs. Twins: Yankees

NL:

Philly vs. Reds: Phillies

Giants vs. Braves Tossup

ALDS

Tampa vs. Yankees: Yankees

NLDS

Phillies vs. Giants/Braves: Phillies

World Series

Yankees vs. Phillies. Philly in 7.

The Phillies have the best 3 starters in Baseball right now. If pitching wins playoff games, then we are set.
Will be rooting against Yankees, Reds, and Phils.

Molt: see you at the NLDS. I am Randy Marsh and your Bat Dad!

I'll be pulling for the Giants (years of futility, many friends who are Giants fans), or the Braves (because of DLee). Wouldn't mind seeing the Rays take it, either. But it's the Phillies series to lose.

I don't like us as favorites. I remember what happened to Chicago in 2008
post #7 of 299
You can't compare the Phillies to the '08 Cubs... that's ridiculous.

True, The Cubs didn't have nearly the calibur of pitching. I want another crack at the Yankees. It is unfair that the Marlins have a World Series win over them, but not the Phillies or Mets.
Unless the Yankees can pitch CC every game, I don't see how they will be able to win the World Series.

I think the Braves can beat the Giants but that's as far as they'll get because the Phillies are a goddamn monster. I really can't imagine any scenario in which the Phils would have any kind of match up problem.

Rays wanting revenge for 2008?

Off Topic: Why is Florida such a shitty baseball/Pro Football state? 12,000 fans to the clinching game for a playoff spot?

They don't deserve the Rays. I can only think they have too many transplants and a shitty stadium. That goes for both teams.

If The Rays were in Cleveland or Baltimore...I bet that they wouldn't be selling only 12k a night. Florida is the worst sports state except for College Football.

They also don't deserve the Holy Trinity in Miami. New York or Chicago should have gotten Lebron and Bosh.

BTW: When Does Longoria's contract expire? I bet he goes the Yankees, R Sox, or Mets.

GO BRAVES!

AL:

Rangers vs. Tampa: Tampa

Yankees vs. Twins: Yankees

NL:

Philly vs. Reds: Phillies

Giants vs. Braves: BRAVES!

Tampa vs. Yankees: Yankees

NLDS

Phillies vs. Braves: Braves (I can dream right?)

World Series

Yankees vs. Braves: Yankees in 7

Plus a shitty location. Not convenient to get to at all. A location in Tampa proper (where most of the population is located) would get more people in the seats (hell, I would consider season tickets if the stadium was 45 minutes closer).

Another factor (recently) has been the economy to a degree. Tampa Bay area is still suffering with unemployment and the real estate market hasn't recovered yet either.

AL:

Rangers vs. Tampa: Tampa

Yankees vs. Twins: Yankees

NL:

Philly vs. Reds: Phillies

Giants vs. Braves Tossup

ALDS

Tampa vs. Yankees: Tampa

NLDS

Phillies vs. Giants/Braves: Phillies

World Series

Tampa vs. Phillies. Tampa in 7.
I'm gonna go with the Phillies over the Giants in the NLCS, and the Rays over the Twins in the ALCS. Then a repeat of '08.
I'm kinda glad the Rangers don't draw the Yankees again, for the fourth straight series. But then I'm kinda not, because I'd rather them defeat that haunting demon.

Here's hoping Hamilton continues his friendly pwnership of his former team. Two years ago, Joe Maddon ordered an IBB to Josh Hamilton, when the bases were already loaded. I hope to the gods that happens again. Rays ended up winning that game though. So, different outcome.
I got the Twins to win it all!!!!!
This is Philadelphia's Series to lose. They are the class of baseball and have, by far, the three best starters. As long as neither the Yankees or Rays win, I'll be happy.
Congrats to your BoSox, Joe, for keeping the Yanks from claiming the AL East crown.

Aside from maybe the Braves, I'd say the Yankees are about the weakest team in the playoffs due to uncertainty in their starting pitching. 'Uncertainty' might be too generous an assessment...
Beating the Yanks and keeping them from winning the AL East was definitely a nice way to end a frustrating season. However, the way both the Yanks and Rays played in September, it seemed neither team was interested in winning the division. Very strange.

AL:

Rangers vs. Tampa: Tampa in 5

Yankees vs. Twins: Yankees in 4

NL:

Philly vs. Reds: Phillies in 4

Giants vs. Braves: Braves in 4

NLDS

Phillies vs. Braves: Braves in 7

World Series

Yankees vs. Braves: Braves in 7

There was an article that did some number-crunching comparing attendance to population and showed that the Rays actually drew a better percentage of the available population than the Yankees did. Problem is that there's a little under three million people in the Tampa/St. Pete area as opposed to 19 million in the NYC metro area.

The stadium location is a huge deal. You're fighting all kinds of traffic over the bay bridges for weekday night games. There's nothing to do around the stadium either; the hoped-for collection of bars and restaurants never materialized. And the Rays don't pull fans from Orlando like the Bucs do because after the 60-75 minute drive from Orlando to Tampa, you're looking at another 45 or so over to St. Pete. And the team seems to have an aversion to weekend day games. There's been plenty of times we've thought about going to catch a game on a Saturday or Sunday, then passed when it meant we'd be rolling back into Orlando after midnight.

Not to mention that "% of available population" is absurd and meaningless. Drawing 12,000 for a first-place MLB team is embarrassing unless the total population is 12,000. Winning teams should be at least near-capacity whether the city has 1 million people or 19 million people.

Thats exactly what I like to see.

And about the Rays drawing 12k...absolutely pathetic. A team in 1st place should be filling their stadium every game.

Welcome to Red DOC-TOBER
They fill the stadium when the Yankees and Red Sox come to town. Too many transplanted Northerners who haven't forgotten their roots.
Favorite time of year, bar none. I'll head out to buy a new Yankee cap this morning.
Just got myself a new Braves shirt when I went to a game in september. I'll be wearing the fuck out of that thing
post #29 of 299
Dunno whether to wear my Braves or Pens jersey tomorrow.

halladay is unreal
You just knew he wouldn't get rattled. Awesome.
Ruiz made a great play there. I would've pulled a Knoblauch. What else can be said? Halladay is worth every penny and then some.
That play was phenomenal. When I saw Ruiz go down to his knees I thought "Well that can't be good." But wow, what a performance.
Damn...Halladay with the incredible no-hitter. Only the second in post-season history. Just more proof of him being the best pitcher in baseball.
I got to watch a lot of Doc when he was in Toronto, and I have to say that was one of the best games I've ever seen him pitch. Jesus, that guy is scary good.
I guess tonight was Philadelphia's way of convincing the last few holdouts that the Phillies have got this shit on lock-down.
They've got this series on lock-down, thats for sure.
And the Yankees with their first-round bye. What a joke of a team the Twins are in the postseason.

Yep, fucking Halladay.

Good job as usual, umpire.

We're starting with the bad calls already? Hopefully it ends up being an isolated incident.

The bad calls started in the bottom of the first in the Texas/Tampa game earlier today, when the ump called a foul tip against Carlos Pena when the ball didn't come anywhere near the bat. It just isn't postseason ball without 'em!

Oof - that must have happened when I was out of my office momentarily.
Sabathia looked like he was sick during the game. Pitched like it too.

We got some pretty great Coco promos last night.
Mike and Mike on ESPN this morning were hammering on the blown call, along with Tim Kurkjian. I couldn't help but find their point amusing--that if the call had actually cost the Yankees the game, that might have been the impetus for seriously going forward with instant replay, i.e. the shitstorm the Yankees and the media would have brought down on Selig would make it inevitable. Which is probably true. But sort of makes me wonder what the reaction would be if a 13-year-old stole a "home run" ball from Nick Swisher.

Sabathia never pitches well in the playoffs.

Yes. Other than the fact he pitched well in the postseason last year, he has never pitched well in the postseason.

The guy's in such great shape, I'm surprised at this. His reverse neck chins are incredible.

God I love the Rays' meltdown. The highly overrated Joe Maddon just got tossed for arguing Micheal Young's check-swing. Hopefully the Rangers hold on, and hopefully that fraud James Shields is never, ever called "Big Game" again. Who the F stole that from James Worthy and thought it was a apt nickname for such an awful pitcher anyway?
