It's awesome the Giants got over on Lee but the more I hear about how middling the back end of the Rangers' rotation is the more I worry about them. The Giants tend be great at getting it up for the aces and in turn often go into a flaccid funk against lesser hurlers.

But hopefully Cain can keep up his post-season pace tomorrow. So far they've taken 1-0 leads in all of their post-season match-ups but in the LDS and LCS were not able to make it 2-0. Time to fix that and apply more boot-pressure to Texas' throat.
Buck's going to need a pre-recorded macro for "Vlad will not get to it" if they keep playing him there.
Was there contact made between Posey's hit and Renteria's first foul ball? Was there even a swing?
Jesus! That has to be the 6th or 7th late inning rally that the Giants have put together this post-season.
I forgot that Uribe swung and missed. It was 15 straight pitches without a swing and 24 without contact. Crazy.
It would be nice if this was a competitive series.
Yeah, I was hoping for that as well.
Obviously the masterful work from Cain and the clutch hitting from Renteria were the highlights from this one. But once again you have to give credit to Bochy for utilizing excellent strategy. Forcing Ron Washington to use pitchers who only throw balls was shrewd.

That's what smart managers do to win ballgames.
By the time Torres batted around in the eight to bring in yet another run I felt like the kid in that Simpsons episode:

"Stop! Stop! He's already dead!"

God I love this ball team.

Seriously, and I know this is just anecdotal, but the two times I was at AT&T to see them play this year, they beat the Reds something like 15-4, and the Astros 12-2. They've always had the bats, it's just no one was watching.
Tonight was so odd because through the middle of the eighth it was another pins and needles affair. Rangers were a sixteenth of an inch away from having a lead at one point.

I was actually hoping Bochy would give Cain a shot at taking Hamilton in the top of the eighth, but they got Lopez for just that situation and he came through beautifully again. That at-bat is likely gonna be lost amidst the madness of the bottom of the 8th but boy is Lopez cooking.

That bounce off the wall is making me call into question my long-held atheism. God might exist, and this year he's pulling for my team.
Guess it was too much to ask for the Rangers to roll over and play dead.

Seems stupidly redundant to label a World Series game as crucial but I will go ahead anyway and say it's crucial for the Giants to take game 4 and make sure they stay in the driver's seat. Bumgarner has been ridiculously rock solid so far so hopefully that trend continues.
Yeah, I mean really the Giants only need to win one of these games to be in good position, but going up against Cliff Lee in Texas seems like a tall order if your lineup is pressing a bit.

Speaking of pressing, I haven't seen every Burrell at bat, but every time i do it seems like he is swinging out of his shoes and missing. So much for "forcing his way into the lineup."
I don't know what's up with Burrell. The guy always tends to have quality at-bats and make the pitchers work but that has gone right out the window during this series. Lot of talk today about him sitting in favor of Aaron Rowand or even Nate Schierholtz since he bats left. At the very least he should drop a spot in the lineup and let Ross bat 5th.
That's just Pat Burrell. Never changes. He had a similarly miserable World Series in 2008, although redeemed himself in the clinching game by hitting a double that was eventually plated for the winning run.
Did ya like that, Barbara? Ya like that country hardball from Bumgarner, Barbara? Remind ya of your old days in the Pony League, Barbara? Go take that scorecard you were working on and put it on your mantle. Gonna make a nice memento.
Well that was beautiful. I love watching Lincecum and Sanchez pitch, but it's hell on my nerves, because they both have the tendency to be erratic, even just in terms of their style. Watching Cain and Bumgarner is the opposite though, I always feel much calmer. Lincecum is still the best, and it will be quite fitting if/when he pitches the clincher tomorrow, but I'm just glad Bummgarner could give my heart the respite it so desperately needed after yesterday.

Then again, I got the eerie calm feeling after W threw that first pitch. Like someone said either here or on another board, the man has the anti-Midas touch, in that everything he touches turns to shit. Doomed the poor Rangers from the get.

One more baby.

If they win... I honestly will not know how to react. I know how to handle disastrous soul-crushing defeats, but I have no idea how to deal with final victory. I suspect it'll take me a few minutes to verify that yes, it was in fact the 3rd out... that yes, it was the 9th inning... that yes, it was the 4th win... and no, I cannot fly so it isn't a dream.

But I will be taking my hideous BrianWilsonBeard (most popular costume of the night - got more reactions than Slutty-Catgirl, Slutty-Nurse or Slutty-Slut!!!) down to the local sports bar for game 5 with more confidence than ever before, because I just cannot imagine anyone beating Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez back-to-back-to-back.

If it should go to game 6, I may even drive for 2 hours down to the bay for the game. Experiencing a city in a state of pure joy, where everyone is your new friend, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

That's how it was when we won the pennant, I don't know what to expect should we win tonight. Half an hour to go, the excitement in this city is palpable.

Wow!
As much fun as it would be to see The Machine close this out, I hate when they take the ace who's dealing out for the ninth. Give him a shot to finish it off.
That's the kind of team that deserves to win. 56 year drought- eliminated. Congrats Giants fans. Enjoy the parade.

Plus they're winning makes GW Bush Cry. No hard feelings san fran when we sweep you in the NLCS in 2011.

Grats to the Giants fans!

As for Greenberg calling Yankees fans violent and apathetic - I'd punch his lights out but I can't be bothered.
Does anyone know what that hand signal means that The Beard does at the end of every game? He makes an X with his hands and says something, and I've been curious as to what it means.

I always get a satisfaction out of watching people win titles on the road, if only for the shots of dejected home-field fans.
Loved to see a bunch of washed up infielders and 4th outfielders get over on the high powered offenses of Philly and Texas. Tip of the cap to the Giants.

Dammit, I miss baseball already.
Lincecum win with Wilson getting the final strikeout on a full count? As perfect a way to win the whole mother as imaginable. Before I get back out to the INSANE street party, just want to say : VAMANOS GIGANTES!

P.S.: Renteria, congrats. You just surpassed Bobby Thopmpson for greatest Giants homerun ever. MVP baby!

P.P.S. HarleyQuinn 22: Wilson's thing is a tribute to Jesus, his dead dad, and MMA, apparently.

P.P.P.S: Molt, I don't know where you live, but if you're ever in SF, hit me up and I'll buy you some beers.

That's all you need when you can hold a team to 1 earned run over three games. That SF pitching staff was ridiculous.

It's a deal. Hope you're having a blast in the city tonight.

It's just crazy to think of all the things that had to fall into place for this to happen. The team is just the right mix of insane pitching, tremendous defense, clutch hitting, and a manager who's a friggin' Houdini.

Renteria doesn't have a 3-RBI game all season and then has 2 in the World Series. That's the Giants in a nutshell.

Feels real good to unclench.
People have compared this Giants team to the '89 Dodgers, but in a lot of ways it reminds me of my beloved 2005 White Sox.

Both teams' postseason runs were primarily the result of having the best pitching staff in the league in their respective years. Both played small ball and were known for winning one run games. Both had Juan Uribe and Aaron Rowand. Both beat a team from Texas pretty handily, and clinched on the road. Both used the Don't Stop Believing theme song. And, most importantly, both ended a long championship dry spell that was marked by a controversial event (Black Sox scandal, the move from New York) early in the drought.

I thought of a few more over the course of the series, but that's all I remember at the moment.
I think the Giants are looking at a bit of a dynasty here, at least a stretch where they will consistently be in the playoffs. Four good, young starting pitchers and a lights-out bullpen. The only team I can see giving them any type of challenge in the NL West is Colorado.

It's amazing what San Fran has done with so much of their payroll going to guys who did little or nothing for them. Zito was left off the post-season roster, Rowand did next to nothing and Renteria was a non-factor for most of the regular season...although one could say it was all worth it for what he did in the Series.
Yeah, they are definitely good to go with pitching, depending on how long they can hold onto Lincecum and Cain. That said, I'm not sure how many miraculous waiver pick-ups they can manage year after year to fill out their lineup.

Pretty flawless Series victory, though. And congrats to Dave Righetti!

Don't think so. They have the starting pitching but bullpens are a fragile animal. One year great, another not so much.

They caught lightning in a bottle and may not have the offense to get back. They aren't going to spend crazy. The middle infield is old as well as the outfield.

The NL West is a subpar division, so its not like they will have to win 100 games to get to the playoffs. And the Giants will have 4 starters capable of shutting you out on any given night with a hammer in the bullpen. An offense with Ross, Torres, Huff, Uribe, an emerging star in Posey and a (possible) bounce-back year from Sandoval isn't bad and more than enough to support this pitching staff.

Cliff Lee's free agency value probably just took a dive.
I don't know about a dive. First of all, he didn't pitch horribly. He really made one big mistake, but overall it was still a quality start. He had a bad game in game 1, but he also had a bad start last year against the Yankees that he ended up not losing.

The Yankees know that if he gives them 7 innings and 3-4 runs allowed on a bad day, that they're still going to be in that game. They paid Sabathia a king's ransom, and he's not really a shutdown guy. He's more of a workhouse, old reliable kind of pitcher. New York will still offer him a ton of money. Maybe they won't overpay him (say, 6/150), but I imagine he's still gonna get in the 5/120 range from the Yanks. Texas will get their bid in, and I don't imagine they'll be lowering it much, if at all, considering they already know that their ceiling could very well be the Yankees floor in terms of offer.
What a waste-- I'm not much of a baseball fan, and the parade is passing right under my office window. I should go down to the street and sell tickets.
What is the Giants fan view of Bochy as a manager now? I heard a lot of grumbling about him during the season.
There was a lot more grumbling about Sabean as GM, who now has earned a free pass for a bazillion years (or 2 in Earth years).

I didn't hear much against Boche. I've seen him as a very good manager dating back to his San Diego days - he got them to the WS as well. Most tellingly, I have no doubt that if San Diego still had Boche this year, they'd have beaten the Giants out for the division. Also, if this Giants team still had Dusty Baker as manager, I have no doubt that they'd have found a way to lose one of those playoff series.

I don't care a bit about the Rangers or their fans, but I did pity them when I realized their manager is essentially Dusty Baker. I wouldn't wish that on any playoff team. (But it was awesome to know that it would be the other guys' coach that screwed up repeatedly - that's a new feeling for me!)

There was a lot of anti-Bochy sentiment in '09 (especially after that infamous game in Colorado that ended on a Spilborghs grand slam) and even after the first couple months this season. The knock on him was that he always went with veterans no matter what. But he finally sat Rowand in favor of Torres and Posey's arrival made it an easy choice to trade Molina and right around June it was like he flipped a switch and didn't care what anybody may have done earlier in their career. If you couldn't put up numbers now then you were going to sit.

RIP Sparky Anderson.

One of the greats.
Stunned he was only 76. Looked like he was nearing 70 back when the Tigers won in '84.

Wait...he's only 50 in this picture?
Managing Pete Rose will do that to a man.

Yeah, he looked like that back in the early seventies when he was coaching the Big Red Machine. Thanks, Sparky.
Aside from his formidable achievements in baseball, he had some memorable TV cameos on WKRP and The White Shadow.

Padres GM, Jed Hoyer, all but said that the Padres will not make a contract extention offer to Adrian Gonzales. He and Heath Bell look to be gone before the start of next season. sigh.
Bell I could see going in the winter because of the other arms in the Padres pen. Gonzalez they'll keep for now but dump in July.

Bud Black should get out of there as well. Guy deserves to manage for a organization that wants to win.

HoF got it right for once.  Nice to see Raines get a few more votes as well.
