J.K. Rowling's stomach growling.

I'd take a fully formed Hogwarts: A History if she was willing to put pen to paper on it, but not much else.

Tales of Beedle The Bard turned out better than expected, though. So, I guess she can and will do whatever she wants.

As Justin said a History of Hogwarts might be cool but I'm kinda done with the whole saga to be honest.

I'd be curious to see what she does. After Voldemort though, it's hard to imagine a better adversary for Harry Potter that can be that much of a obstacle.

But I'd like to see what happens to the characters and how they deal with the aftermath of Voldemort running the wizarding world. The seventh book was a disappointing in that regard, since it completely lacked a 4th and 5th act.

BREAKING NEWS: JK Rowling has given a vague, noncommittal response to the 'more Harry Potter?' question she's probably asked every day of her life.

Read our hit-whoring willful misreading of her every statement after the jump.

J.K. Rowling had some dudes move piles of cash with forklifts and squeezed out of her palace to visit Oprah Winfrey (who also had a barge carry stacks of dough out of the way to accommodate her girth)
JK Rowling is not fat. ?

Considering Rowling's writing got better as the series went along, I'd be all for the continuing adventures of... Lord knows the universe she set up is big and varied enough for lots of interesting possibilities.

No, she just need to squeeze past all the amazing money.

As a result I must report that while I've enjoyed some of the films I could take or leave the entire franchise and with that information in mind you can judge this article as the ravings of a fool or appreciate my very neutral stance.
As an ancillary discussion point, I've never understood why the books, let alone the movies, garnered such a rabid response, especially from adults. I've read all the books, and I've seen the movies. I've been a lifelong fantasy fiction fan. And there are so many better series out there; better written, better plotted, etc. The movies veer from competent to pretty damn good, but aren't the sorts of flicks that make me want to name my cats, children and cars after characters in the books.

I don't hate the series, and certainly don't begrudge Rowling her success (I actually think THAT is a great story - essentially penniless and hopeless, she writes the first one out of blind faith and desperation, only to be rewarded with more success than she could have dreamed of).

It's just genuine puzzlement and good-natured bemusement at how gaga people go over the books and movies.

My mistake.
Oprah eats poor people.

Ok I was probably excessively cruel there but really, this is exactly the kind of non-news you guys used to routinely dismiss as Oh Don Piano*. Only the world's most literal minded person could read her quotes from that article and come away honestly thinking she has some possible plan out there for three more books. She's saying "probably not, but you never know", which isn't really surprising at all given that she's done a couple of spin offs already.

*though to this day I don't get what that name was all about

I would suggest that people actually watch the interview rather than read the quotes. She didn't want to give a definitive "no" because she believes in never say never, so she gave an answer that was clearly vague. Not for a second did I think that she was detailing a plan for the next books.

Yeah, I'm with Devil on this one. Who can actually present that much of a threat to Harry and to the Wizarding world such that we forget about Voldemort for the length of the new novel? I wouldn't necessarily mind more books that take place in the Potter universe-- Hogwarts, a History would be great, I agree-- but any book wherein Harry battles some new random bad guy for the good of the Wizarding world will probably feel really limp dramatically.

Setting a story in that world with a focus on a different main character wouldn't have that problem, though.

It's the story of Harry turning evil. After years of depression drowning in butter beer, he realizes the best of his life is past and starts studying the dark arts out of curiosity. His fascination grows when he uses some ....

never mind. You guys take it from here.

I did an blog post about this.
Check it out, if you're so inclined.

Wait, this isn't the story of Harry's continual slide into depression as he battles PTSD, only to watch Ginny, his children, and his friends slowly pull away from him? Where only his life on a shrimping boat with Luna Lovegood can bring him back around?
