Does this mean what I think it means? (link appears to be not working).
ETA: Yep. And now the link is working. Hopefully Nolan + Snyder = pretty and interesting.
Ohwell... I'm not a fan of Snyder's but I'll be interested to see if working under Nolan improves his storytelling ability.
Yes, thank you. I happen to be a fan of Snyder's work and I'd love to see his take on Superman. Hopefully, his style and ability to faithfully adapt a comic book property, generally speaking, will compensate for the numerous holes that I expect David Goyer's contributions will mark the script with.
Can't say I'm not intrigued at the idea of Zach Snyder and Chris Nolan working together to make a watchable Superman movie.
I want White Collar's Matthew Bomer as Superman

Superman's gonna be so fuckin' metal. Yeaaaah!
It's a good choice, and as I've said before, I think Snyder's visuals and Nolan's storytelling skills will complement each other quite nicely. Superman could actually use a little speed-ramping, especially when he's pummeling some alien monstrosity.
My second favorite choice. But it could be visually amazing.
He was probably the best option on the shortlist that was released a couple of weeks ago.
I had a feeling it was going to be him. Out of all the names speculated he's been the one whose handled comic book projects before that required extreme technical finesse.

All the other directors listed have been either guys who have done small quirky films (Duncan Jones) OR are past their prime (Tony Scott, Zemeckis).

I still stand by Jon Hamm for Superman.

This is MADNESS!

MADNESS!?

THIS. IS. AWESOME!

(Had to do it)

Love the potential. I'm actually pretty excited about this, regardless of casting.
Thank God it's not Aronofsky.
Great choice. Can't wait to see Stephen McHattie as Perry White/Jor-El/Zod/whoever.
It's tough to have a lot of interest in Supes.
While I'm sure the hate fest will kick off shortly, before it does let me just say I have no major issue with this choice.
Pretty cool, maybe we can get some style (Snyder) and story (Nolan).

I actually felt the same way. I don't know your reasoning, but I don't mind Aronofsky on the edges of Hollywood circling big projects and never taking them. It's this circling process that has kept him returning to make several smaller, fascinating and beautiful films.

Snyder is a great pick, and will help flesh out the film visually and stylistically. Nolan will add cerebral elements. It seems like a great match to emphasize each others' strengths and strengthen the others' weaknesses.
This is almost enough to get me interested in a Superman movie.
I find it pleasing we find out the director of Superman the day Roethlisberger returns

But, really, I'm pretty excited. Two of my favorite filmmakers are teaming up for one of my favorite comic book characters.
I feel like I shortchanged that news post -- but come on, who wants to hear me? It's about people talking!

I really like the pick the more I think about it. I think Snyder knows what makes comic adaptations work -- he gets the tone right. Not too serious, not too campy, unapologetic.

My reasoning is similar. He's one of my favorite directors and I can't imagine a big budget major studio tent-pole Superman movie he could make that'd be more interesting than a smaller indie film. Maybe one day the stars will align and he'll take on a major studio project that's perfect for his sensibilities (like, ironically, Verhoven and Robocop back in '87) but until then I'm more than happy to let someone like Snyder, who wouldn't be doing anything interesting anyway, take the job.

Set it in the 40's and have him do battle with giant robots.

That's the sentiment that I can get behind.

As do I.

I really didn't care who they got to direct the thing as long as it wasn't McG, Kevin Smith or some bullshit like that.

Snyder is a great choice though.

If we lived in a world where the film could stand alone, without thoughts of sequels, franchises and other economic concerns polluting the creative choices behind it, I'd frikkin love an already established Jon Hamm Supes going up against giant robots while a Rachael Weisz Lois Lane watches nervously from the roof of The Daily Planet.

...but we don't live in that world.

I've always loved your writing.

But anyways, this pick will be fun. Very interesting to see how his visual style comes together with Nolan, Goyer and Supes.

I wish we did. I truly, truly wish we did. This is the same world with Peyton Reed's Fantastic 4 film.
Love the pairing, but does anyone else get the giggles when they imagine Snyder and Nolan having lunch together?
This is good news. We know it will be visually arresting, steeped in comic book tradition and full of action.

Superman Returns was only one of those things. And, even that, barely.

This is definitely a step up.

McHattie as Perry White would be perfect.

.......

In other news, I guess I should stop hoping for my Smallville spin-off Superman movie.

I know you all hate that idea. But I'm actually going to be a little sad when the show wraps next year.

I hope it carries on in TV movie form, like The Incredible Hulk did.

I'm fine with this choice, and I think that's what we were all most concerned about.

A period Superman movie would be awesome. Maybe Warner Brothers will let them go nuts since reverence to the previous movies didn't work.
Interesting as I make no qualms about my love for Snyder however he is going from Hard R comic movies to Superman. It will be interesting and I think Nolan can reign in his style a little to make a great superman movie. .....with Jon Hamm
post #37 of 234
Well, he wasn't my ideal choice, but its not a bad one. Hopefully Nolan's storytelling and thematics rubs off, and they can cast some really good actors. If Nolan thinks that its going to work I'm willing to give this a shot.
I'm not over the moon about this choice. Having said that, while he's not the guy I voted for, he's the guy I got, and I wish him well.

And for God's sake, don't cast anyone under the age of 30 for Lois Lane.

No way is Kal-el going to be past his very early thirties for this first instalment is my guess.
I want Hamm in the roll badly but I think beyond his age, his show might hurt him too. If the studio has any say in this the guy getting slapped around by a whore whose riding him might not be their first choice.
Is Hamm the new Bruce Campbell?
Give me Billy Zane in a wig.

It sure as hell mine.
Billy Zane should play every character.

In all seriousness, give Snyder a good script and he'll bring the pretty.
I approve this choice. Two directors who compliment the weaknesses of the other. I have good feelings about this one. As long as theyre not abandoning the depth of the original and Returns altogether. Which, with Nolan involved, is impossible.

According to EW it will be a bigger dinner:

Quote:
Nolan, who took the Batman franchise to new heights and stunned audiences this summer with Inception, is producing the film with his wife and partner Emma Thomas. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) will also produce with Deborah Snyder, Zack’s wife and producing partner.
The other directors couldn't match the Snyder combo.
Interesting choice. Snyder is kinda good with casting decisions...
So it's like a family thing huh.
Screw lunch - they need to have a cookout!
The decision to hire...Zack Snyder for, The Man Of Steel is...SUPER...MAN! I hope this is an...X-Mas, 2012 release as, there are already numerous Superhero/Comic Book adaptions set for the summer. I suppose this will be in...3D too!

I don't know if that is the case any more. I mean that was my first thought but then I realized...the dude directed Inception. I think he has spread his wings and flown away from the "can't direct action" tag.
