Local Scene CD Swap

I spent a nice weekend around several friends in the local music scenes of Asheville, NC and my city. It made me wonder what the local scenes sound like throughout the Sewer.

I propose a swap of CD's featuring some of the best local people you are aware of. Maybe you have a band. Maybe, like me, you really dig folks in your local scene and would like other people to hear their stuff.

I have at least three artists I wouldn't mind introducing other people to.

I have glanced at some of the other swap threads and they all seemed to be mix tapes. Instead of mixes I was thinking this could be a way to support the local musicians we all know and love by buying a CD or two and sharing them with a fellow Chewer. First rule would be professionally produced discs. Fair enough?

I've never spearheaded something like this so I would like some suggestions on how to run it while I peruse some of the other swap threads. I am assuming a good way to start would be to give a cut-off date for joining. Then I guess I would throw all the names into a hat and pair people up. Then I guess those pairs can PM each other pertinent mailing info and off it goes? Then the thread is revisited with reviews and thoughts?

As this is a way to expand musical horizons does anyone have a suggestion as to whether to include likes/dislikes or something of the sort?

Anyone game?

I would definitely not mind making a mix of some of the best Midwestern DIY folk music I've come across from my time in the scene. I'm down.

I'm in, and I promise not to include any Midwestern folk so our local scene CD's don't cross the streams. However I am calling dibs on Cheap Trick.

I just read the "no mixes" rule. None of the stuff I had in mind was "professionally produced" in any way, shape or form.

Asheville has an awesome local music scene. This sounds like a great idea!

Mixes or professional CD's ...I was just asking for suggestions right now. The reason I went with professional discs was to not only share amongst Chewers but to also support our local artists.

Of the three people I would most likely share a disc from I can get two of them for $10 each and the other is a $20 disc. I might have one more disc that I could get for free since I am closer to him than the other people but I'm not sure he is finished mixing all the tracks yet.
