MORGAN FREEMAN SPILLS ON BATMAN 3 STUFF

More than one villain perhaps?

The thought of Philip Seymour Hoffman as the penguin has been fan speculation for quite some time, hasn't it? It seems too good to be true, so it probably won't happen, which is a shame. I could really dig more of a grounded villan (a mob-boss type penguin) or villans. I have trust in Nolan at this point, though, to know how to balance this film in the wake of the Joker.

I'd love to see a Penguin who's called that because he has a penchant for tuxes and tails and not because he looks like one. More a nickname than a description.

Let's keep the fanwank plotting on the boards, Davey!

I'm sure when Freeman says "I've heard..." he's talking about internet scuttlebutt, not actual word from Nolan or anyone actually involved.

Also: please god no Catwoman. I mean, I trust whatever Nolan wants to do. But I pray there's no Catwoman.

I'd love to see this guy as The Penguin:

So basically he's just regurgitating internet bullshit? Non-news.

I think a great way to do the third film would be to set it up as a Seven-style flick with the Riddler at the core. Have him play up the "Batman is a murderer" angle, causing things to get even harder for Batman as he continues to evade capture. All the while he tries to discover who the Riddler is that has been causing Bats' current infamy to spread like wildfire. Throughout the film, Bats keeps thinking he has The Riddler, only to find it's a decoy planted by the villain himself. Then, at the end, the real Riddler is finally revealed. This would definitely put more emphasis on the detective aspect of Batman's character, something we really haven't seen done well in this series so far.

There was actually a Riddler storyline just like this in the comics circa '93 called Dark Knight, Dark City. It's absolutely brilliant.

I'm already tired of this movie.

Holy crap, I'm gonna have to check that out.

And sorry, Tati. I didn't mean to make your heart sad.

Yeah, this is getting to be some Ouroboros shit right here.

I am a little bummed Nolan wont go near the idea of an extended Bat-Family. No Robin. No Batgirl. No NightWing. No Oracle. No Huntress...

I think there is a wealth of great stories to be told with those characters and it would be killer to see Nolan's take on them. Of course that is pure, selfish fan dreaming. Nolan has proven that his vision of the world is amazing and what ever he makes is probably going to be a classic.

Yea, no offense Dave, but that was kinda painful to read.

Yeah, we've already seen Catwoman twice. No need for a 3rd time.

Thanks Dylan, you made me think of the Catwoman movie. That movie was so bad it gave me Post Traumatic Stress and I had blocked it out....until now. Now I gotta go cut myself until I forget it again.

Not to dogpile...but thirded. I signed in tonight just because of the "Bane" stuff.

WRT that... HUH? That sounds pretty damn terrible, actually.

I'd sooner see Catman than Catwoman.

In fact I'd love to see some of the lesser used villains in general like Clayface, The Mad Hatter, Killer Croc or even Dr. Hugo Strange.

I don;t understand why they go to the same 4 or so villains over and over.

Croc you said? Mmmm...
The Mad Hatter would be really good in Nolan's hands.

Bane? NO.... Penguin? YES....
I'd love to see the Mad Hatter, but I somehow doubt he's likely to be on the menu due to Depp's recent work in Alice in Wonderland still fresh in audiences' minds. I suspect Batman's Hatter would potentially be met with a less than enthusiastic reception from non-fans.

Russ wrote a piece on Slashfilm theorizing that Croc may play a role due to the film being shot partly in Louisiana. If they take a similar approach to him as Azzarello's Joker graphic novel did, he'd be awesome.

While I know he's way too obvious a choice, and probably too close to Ledger's Joker, I'd love for the Riddler to pop up. I'm a huge fan of the character and I yearn to see him done properly. Two Face got his proper cinematic redemption. I want to see Riddler receive his.

Oh, and fuck Bane.

There doesn't appear to be much actual news to be gleaned from Mr Freeman's comments. He seems to just be repeating fan casting rumors, not divulging behind the scenes info (such as the P.S. Hoffman as Penguin thing.. I saw that fan casting story on the internet, now that Freeman's saying it, does that mean Nolan is talking about it or is it just something Freeman's heard somewhere before and is now regurgitating?)
