Shitty jokes causes a stink around around Ron Howard's 'The Dilemma.'

Baffling.

The more offensive thing is Kevin James being married to Wynona Rider in the movie.

Good god. I mean, really? I guess that's offensive if you're incredibly uptight.

Might want to pick better battles though.

That trailer is why they hate us.

Us? Are you, by chance, a rather puffy Chicagoan?

Hey i may not be in the US, but the hate goes towards the western culture! We've had terrorist attacks as well!

Oh, I know. I mean you may be "South," but you're still an "American" in some technical sense.

I don't know how one can go back to being offended by a relatively harmless (yet tasteless) joke at the beginning of THAT fucking trailer, after everything that ensues.

A strong desire to slap Ron Howard should be the only lingering effect there.

The "gay" joke at the beginning of the trailer is actually part of the film's main theme of social intolerance, in that you have two guy buddies
who share a homophobic streak throughout the film. The "other man" is actually gay, an indirect target of their prejudice, and revenging upon Paul Blart through his wife, to steal her away and break up their family unit just because he can.
Well, there you go. It certainly felt a little too deliberate to be something to get all worked up over. I can't believe anyone didn't assume the filmmakers weren't being incredibly intentional there.

You're kidding, right? That can't seriously be what happens in the movie.

People are hypersensitive to this sort of thing in light of recent events. Put this trailer out two months ago and no one would bat an eye. Not a nice fact, but a fact it is.

If this is the case, then it was even more stupid to put it in the trailer with no context.

I think I missed the joke part.

Yeah, that's a trailer that will attract a particular crowd that it will then piss off mightily. Maybe they're trying to preach to the non-converted.

I hope that homophobic asshole in the comments goes and sees it like he promises.

For real?

Man, that's the dumbest fucking thing I ever heard.

Nah, I just made it up. I was so bored with the trailer that my mind wandered to more entertaining scenarios, culminating in cheap sex, shallow social commentary, bloodshed, and mainstream Wild Hogs-oriented moviegoers sitting in stunned silence through it all.

Now that I think about it, I can't decide if I'd rather see (and when I say 'see', I mean 'avoid like the fucking plague') a movie with a nutty premise like the one you described or another banal, pedestrian Vince Vaughn comedy-drama about modern relationships.

The "Other man" is played by Channing Tatum. Which makes the whole thing extra hilarious (in a bad way) if true.

And what the hell are Winona Ryder and Jennifer Connelly doing in shit like this? They're totally above this. They've had some occasional missteps but still.

Just when I think Winona is getting her shit together and showing up in some great movies, hooking up with good directors (mainly Aronofsky), and/or giving some pretty good performances (Private Lives of Pippa Lee) she cumfarts on my hopes with this garbage.

Whenever anyone would call something "gay" as a pejorative in HS (such as cafeteria food), I'd make a point to loudly state "Yes, you're right, that IS a very homosexual taco salad". This usually had the effect of making the person who said it uncomfortable. Thankfully I grew up in a liberal/progressive area, so the people who were lazy and hateful with their language were mocked for it and treated like unsophisticated yokels.

Sadly I guess you can't mock Vince Vaughn to his face, which is where I guess the frustration thats lead to this public outcry comes from. The film sounds terrible, from everything I've heard. It looks like Mr Howard has temporarily forgotten his delusions of artistry, and has decided to tackle the kind of LCD comedy that is more naturally on his level than the oscar bait fair he's toyed with the past decade. Hope the uproar from slur-gate manages to damage his career in some way. That would be the only positive I can see from this whole sorry episode

So, who wants to start a pool on how long until Vince Vaughn's eyes completely recede into his doughy face?

They should tell whatever the fuck jokes they want. But what the hell is Ron Howard doing on this thing?
