Of course it's about money. So were the last three. So is pretty much every movie. I don't get this criticism. Studios aren't interested in making children smile. They want to make money.

Just calling out something blatantly obvious. Universal should be trying to build new franchises not mining the shit out of dead ones.

I'd like to live in that world too, but in the mean time at least they're not just pushing the reboot button on BOURNE (or some other crassly cynical move). There is a slight risk on starting afresh with a new character (albeit in an already established universe*). In this day and age, I think that's worthy of at least a golf clap

*which isn't that outlandish or specific, it's essentially a more exciting and and less depressing version of the real world. Plenty of unique tales can be told in that sand box

In this economy? I think we can look forward to a whole lot more mining in the near future. Risk-taking isn't going to be a popular sport for the studios.

Creatively, I'd agree. I just don't think it's very likely right now.

Besides, "mining a franchise" without it's star, it's character, superheroes or giant transforming robots is far from a safe bet. I really don't get why people are getting up in arms about this.
