CINEMATIC HORROR ARCHIVE

Thread Starter
If you are looking for in-depth reviews of modern and classic horror, you have found the right site. There are only 23 articles published at this moment. However, Robert A. Newberry, Creepy Crawler (with is humorous overview critiques of obscure titles), and myself, are always working on the next piece, so hopefully in the near future, we will reach our goal of being a comprehensive archive of horror film reviews, covering every era, sub-genre, and country, which has contributed to the history of cinematic horror.

Included in each article, as well as intelligible, sound, honest, and unbiased critique, is an original theatrical poster, screenshots, links to clips and trailers, and if available a link to watch the film online. We cater for newcomers of the genre, as well as for the veteran fans. We encourage you to leave comments on the published reviews, as so to induce the fun of film discussion, and we hope you enjoy your read.

For now, the site is really more of a blog. However, stretching the limited resources available free from Wordpress (an excellent publishing platform), the emphasis is on creating a full website. With time, money, and upgrades, it will fruition into this, and will have its own unique domain name.

To start reading all work published so far, just go to the homepage:

I just read your Halloween 2 write-up. It's very well done and researched. Good work.

AH!

Excellent write-up on Angel Heart, which is a film that I absolutely loved years ago, but need to re-watch since I don't remember too much other than the ending.

I will echo that sentiment, but your typos and grammatical errors are legion.

Thanks, but typos and grammatical errors? I proof read my work twice before I publish, and when the article is up on the site I read it for a third time. I'll go over it again.

"It is even easier because of them later installments, "

"To enhance all this is the superiority of the cinematography by Dean Cundy. John Carpenter has Cundey "

That's just from looking at it for a minute.

It's stuff that wouldn't come up on spellcheck so I could see why you'd miss it.

Thanks for pointing out the mistakes. I'll get on with correcting these errors, along with any others I can find.

Let's also have it said here that there's NSFW pics and links to whole movies bootlegged on youtube, for those who might take issue with such things; be forewarned.
Yeah, the NSFW I don't care, but the links to bootlegged films is not a favorable thing at all. Perhaps a link to Amazon instead?

@Sebastian OB

I've just gone over the entire 3,000 odd words of Halloween II (1981): A Worthy Companion Piece to the Original or Not?, and it reads much better now - I'm really happy with it!

To be fair I was up to about 3:30 in the morning doing it all; finishing the initial writing, proof reading and editing, and sorting out the lay out. I was struggling to get the article published in time for Halloween western time. So I think my tiredness was the reason for so many errors.

Thank you for pointing it out, because I might not have known otherwise. I thought it was all fine, and its been up on the site for about a week!

I think the images are fine, but yeah I can understand your issues with the Youtube links for the full films. I wouldn't even contemplate putting up links for torrent downloads.

I am at this moment, sorting out a forum for the site on Proboards. So this is a discussion I can start a thread for. Depending on the majority consensus, I may or may not do away with these links. Links to Amazon is something I will consider.

I am concentrating on building a readership, and when I start getting the right amount of traffic every month, I'm going to start spending serious money on setting up a full website (with forums). When done I will move out of Wordpress, and I really do not see the links to full films on Youtube being part of the website. I will most definitely be changing to Amazon links instead.

C.H.A Update Info: 13/12/10 -

I am at this moment writing a feature, entitled ‘George A. Romero’s Living Dead Series Retrospective – Part 1: Night of the Living Dead (1968)’.

Obviously its the first part of a retrospect of all six Romero zombie films. As well as this retrospective being ambitious in scope as a whole, so is each part, and I underestimated how long this first piece will take me to write. I was hoping to have it all done for yesterday, keeping to my discipline of publishing a new article by myself once a week. Hopefully it should all be done by the end of this week, if not it will be up on the site as soon as I’ve finished it all.

I’ll be taking a break from all things Romero zombies for Christmas, and reviewing a holiday themed slasher. After that will be part 2 of the retrospect with of course ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (1978), and then so on with the rest of the franchise. Next year I’m hoping to review more early horror, as so far since the site has been up about five and half months ago, I’ve only done a write up of The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958).

At some point next year I will start making many upgrades to Cinematic Horror Archive as it is now, before eventually moving out of WordPress as a blog, and making the transition into a full website with my own unique domain name.

Thanks very much for reading,

C.H.A Update Info: 19/12/10

Right then, I’m still hard at work on the first part of my Romero zombie retrospect, after getting a fair bit sidetracked this week, so unfortunately it won’t be published today. The good news is, is that I do see ‘George A. Romero’s Living Dead Series Retrospective – Part 1: Night of the Living Dead (1968)’ being up on the site sometime this week.

Creepy Crawler will be back soon, with hopefully a couple of his humorous overview critiques covering obscure rarities to bring to your attention.

I will definitely be publishing a review this Christmas of a holiday themed slasher as well.

C.H.A Update Info: 25/12/10

Merry Christmas!

I have just published my article Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984): A Slasher Christmas Cracker.

I took a break from writing ‘George A. Romero’s Living Dead Series Retrospective – Part 1: Night of the Living Dead (1968)’, so I could make sure I got this up on the site in time for Christmas. This is the first piece I’ve published in three weeks, and I’m really not happy about that! I will make sure I get another review up before the year is out, and hopefully during the first week of the new year the first part of my Romero zombie retrospect will see the light of day. From then on I’m going to make sure I get back to my discipline of publishing a new article once a week.

At some point in 2011 expect to see videos for the trailers rather than just links, changes to the site’s layout, and forums. I’m hoping to start work on the full website sometime in 2012.

Thanks for reading, and have a happy Christmas,

Dave J. Wilson

C.H.A Update Info: 02/01/11 -

I have just published my review of Martin (1977).

I have officially put the first part of my Romero Living Dead series retrospective on the back burner, until I feel I can tackle it and finish it in one weeks time from the last article I publish before it. For now, because I didn’t publish anything for three weeks last month until Christmas, I want to make sure I get back to my discipline of putting up a new piece of my own on the site once a week. When I finally publish part 1 of the Romero zombie retrospect with ‘Night of the Living Dead’ (1968), I will do the write up of ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (1978) when I know for sure I can commit to it 100%, and get it done in a week.

C.H.A Update Info: 19/01/11

Creepy Crawler is at it again with another review of an obscure oldie, as Crawler’s Chaos returns with 'The Hanging Woman (1973)':

http://cinematichorrorarchive.wordpress.com/2011/01/19/crawlers-chaos-the-hanging-woman-1973/

I am at this moment residing in my native homeland of England due to a family situation. I hope to be back in my apartment in Thailand with unlimited internet access soon. However, I am being productive during my time away, evident from publishing this latest article on my auntie’s computer, and I have shut myself in my mother’s spare room as I attempt to finish my long in the works feature piece – ‘George A. Romero’s Living Dead Series Retrospective – Part 1: Night of the Living Dead (1968)’. Therefore, it should be published in the very near future.

I have just published Matthew Nadbrzuch’s review of The Blair Witch Project (1999):

http://cinematichorrorarchive.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/the-blair-witch-project-1999/

After a difficult start to the new year, I’m now getting myself sorted out. I am now back in my apartment in Thailand with full internet access and a  spanking new laptop. I will be getting back to my discipline of publishing a new article by myself once a week, and expect to see some changes to this blog of Cinematic Horror Archive before it starts making the transition into a full website, which will be hopefully  sometime next year. I am becoming a better and better writer the more I work, and the same goes for Creepy Crawler. Matthew Nadbrzuch is a new talent I’ve just taken on, and hopefully there will be more new writers in the near future. As far as I’m concerned, both mine and C.H.A’s new year starts here.
