That is just... Wow. I love banksy's stuff. Impressed that they had the balls to air it.
In case it wasn't painfully obvious: Banksy is AWESOME.

And yet, in my darkest mind, I imagine it got past Fox brass on sheer "It's funny because it's true" principle.
Dear God, how did this air? On fucking Fox of all places! Amazing stuff, though.

Take away the Unicorn and Dolphinhead (which took it all too obviously into fantasy) and that'd be solid Simpson gold.
I actually like the fantasy stuff. A Simpsons intro needs to be funny, even when the point it's trying to make is serious.

That was great, and yes Bansky is indeed awesome.

Or, you know, it could be the theme of the piece: 20th Century Fox takes things magical and wonderous and destroys them with their merchandising machine.

How would this bite them in the ass, it was hilarious. And I don't think the Dolphin head pushed it into fantasy, I think the animators working in bone-strewn mines beneath a giant 20th Century Fox logo, having their cels dipped in toxic chemicals by children made that pretty clear. Gold all around.

I tuned in a little late and didn't realize it was still the couch opening. I thought that was going to be the darkest Simpsons episode ever for bit there.

Overblown. They've already done these jokes, many times before. It was more subversive then. Plus the music is awful.
Slightly off topic but Banksy taking of Bristol Museum last year was one of the best things he has ever done. Well worth queing for a friggin hour just to get in.

I guess I'm alone on this... Who the hell is Banksy?

An awesome graffiti activist.

Find yourself a copy of Exit Through The Gift Shop. By any (legal) means necessary.

There's an interesting argument to be made from this.
You might just still be able to find the film in theatres.
If you have a region free player, it's already out on DVD/Blu Ray in the UK.
Yeah no region-free or nearby theater playing it. Going to have to hit up Netflix whenever I get it, I suppose. Heard a lot of people talking it up round these parts lately...
oddly enough Exit Through The Gift Shop is playing tonight and tomorrow at the New Beverly Cinema here in LA.

So any Los Angelinos who want to see it, there is your chance...

Yeah it was a funny but familiar joke when I saw it last night. I was surprised to see everyone talking about it this morning. It was even mentioned on the local news this morning!

I'm with Patrick. I didn't find it all that surprising or funny. I actually happened to catch this midway while at a friend's house last night. Didn't realize it was the couch gag till it ended.

But then again, I'm pretty much put off by anything of The Simpsons I see that isn't seared into my brain from my childhood.

So I saw Exit Through the Gift Shop last night (posted in the thread for it) and loved it.  Didn't really have any idea who Banksy was till then (as if we'll ever...).  But after seeing that amazing documentary, the Simpsons opening talked about in this thread just ends up coming across even less impressive.  After how impressed I was with ETtGS, his take on the couch gag just comes across as uninspired.

... but what if that's the idea!??!?!
