Waiting for the news that Craig's run as Bond is officially over and that Ian McKellen died in his sleep.

Say bye to Hardy.
Said it elsewhere, but hope Hardy walks and they talk Mel into running back to Oz to end his career where he started it.

That would be so great. Do it, Mel!

I wonder if the budget for this film would be cut in half if Gibson were to agree to come back, just to offset any perceived risk. Either way, though I am curious about Hardy as Max, he'll never really be Max, only one crazy, racist, homophobic, bipolar religious zealot gets that honor, and I'll always love him for it. Come back, Gibson, don't leave the future of the human race in the hands of gay Nazi bikers!

sigh

This news makes my shoulders sag.

Sag I say.

I feel I should be more upset by this news than I actually am.

I guess I'd rather see Hardy do more exciting things than a fourth/fifth Mad Max film. Plus, my faith in Miller recapturing the brilliance of the first two instalments at this point is not strong. I mean, Babe: Pig in the City aside, the dude hasn't exactly produced anything of serious note in the last 25 years. Plus, I seriously loathed his last visit to Mad Maxland.

Remember what happened last time a long-absent director returned to his two-decade old series for another kick at the can?

I dunno, this could be cool but I won't be heartbroken if it never happens.

At this point with how MGM is going, I'd be surprised if Craig does a third film (I want to see as much of his 007 as possible, mind you). At least this would open up Hardy for say Zod in Superman: The Man of Steel.

Hell, Hardy could be Bond.

I thought those films were a done deal, what's happening?

I got no problem with Hardy as Max but I'd love to get Mel Gibson back with Max a mean old misanthrope ready to die. Gibon's career is probably at the perfect place right now to make it violent as hell and really unpleasant.

Same here. This is getting frustrating.

I'd rather see Mel as a Col. Kurtz-type leading a group of loyal savages. Max would be literally mad. Make him the "villain" of the piece, well, as much as Brando was the "villain" of Apocalypse Now, anyway.

Rains that have ended a twelve year drought and an aussie dollar at it's strongest point in thirty years.

If you viewed the Mad Max films as "serious", you might have been doing it wrong. Lorenzo's Oil was "Serious."

He shared a director credit and was grieving the untimely death of his producing partner. Surely that gives him at least a pass for one more go-round?

My name is tommy five-tone and I approve of this suggestion.

Not to be ants at a picnic or whatever, but you guys are aware of how ridiculously minuscule a possibility it is of Gibson being anywhere near this eventual production yeah?

Let me enjoy the movie in my head, will ya? It's directed by '82 vintage Miller, stars the BRONSON Hardy, the Charlize from the 'Crossfire' music video and Mel with that crazy-arse beard he was sporting during the making of APOCALYPTO.

Yes, Rain Dog, I'm sure we all understand that.
Rain Dog, don't be acting like "It's so crazy, it JUST MIGHT WORK!" is some phrase I made up just now.

Yes, I know. Just trying to distract my brain from the real possibility of us not getting more films in the Mad Max world, after a few years of teasing.

This is a most unwelcome development! Between the practical stunts and Mr Hardy, this was one of my most anticipated action films. My amateur Planeteer status informs me that "unseasonal rains" are just what arid locations periodically require in order to sustain life, but all the same, if they imperil 'FURY ROAD' it's hard for me not to advocate salting the whole of the Australian continent to prevent green from creeping into the frame

(My number one anticipated action film? THREE MUSKETEERS 3D with Ray Stevenson)

I was kind of hoping to see Hardy in the role, he's proving to be one of the more fascinating young actors working today and I'd love to see him really go for it with the property rather than have it be mired by the associated bullshit Gibson would bring.

I still don't see what Hardy sees in that new action comedy from McG. Money? It's money right?
I hope we at least get Avalanche's game out of it before the end of the world.

McG has a fascinating ability for getting talented people who usually have more credibility to buy into his bullshit (Bill Murray! Christian Bale?).

I agree, I don't want the both of them. I only want Gibson if Hardy drops out.

And I always assume the actors who associate with McG are actually uge Supernatural fans.

I just have never believed this would actually happen, It's the vaporfilm to end all vaporfilms.
I guess this gives me more time to rectify the fact that I havent seen any of the three Mad Max movies.

Well we live in a time where Axl Rose actually released Chinese Democracy and Duke Nukem Forever is right around the corner, so I have more hope for vapor projects than I did a few years ago.

This could be coming out Friday and you could still get up to speed. The first two are essentials. And you get to ignore the third one, unlike 15 year old me. Put down the bong on get on that shit!
