BOYLE AND 28 TRILOGIES

28 Months Later news.

I figured the ending of 28 Weeks showed a global, or at least continental infestation.

Yeah, if it reached continental Europe then all bets are off.

28 WEEKS LATER had some great action and extremely tense scenes but I hope they drop the one, huge flaw, that some infected appear to have memories. There's no way Robert Carlyle should remember who his kids are and stalk them all over London. That was dumb.

As a big SUNSHINE fan, I kind of wish he might try his hand at a new original sci fi film, especially in the wake of INCEPTION. Perhaps he feels that 27 HOURS didn't turn out how he was hoping, so he's now trying to line up a more commercial gig before that film hits?

Don't get me wrong: I like 28DL. The prospect of another Boyle helmed entry in the series is fun... but with that said, at this point in his career he's oscar winning director Danny Boyle and I find it kind of odd he's coming back for a threequel rather than trying something fresh

Oh well, I'm sure it will be entertaining

This is great. Good to see Boyle is still interested in doing horror even after he won an Oscar. 28 Weeks Later was so dark and nihilistic, I think the idea of Robert Carlyle destroying his family, however forced it may seem to some, was one of the more interesting aspects of the film, though I don't think he technically had memories.

They were in a fairly confined area most of the movie, so for them to keep running into him, while clearly more of a plot device than actually plausible, was necessary to expand on the themes of the movie, and technically "could" happen.

28 WEEKS LATER was dumb as a box of rocks. Well-made and entertaining, but it wasn't some amazingly dark and complex treatise on the dark side of humanity.

I don't think anyone is claiming that it is the Apocalypse Now of horror movies, but it definitely has some elements that elevate it past just being "people are infected again! Run!".

The opening scene, which, frankly, is one of the most intense openings to a horror movie that I can remember(oddly this is the only part of the movie directed by Boyle), is so powerful mainly because of Carlyle's character's decision to leave his wife behind since she has chosen to help a child, instead of saving herself and coming with him.

I think it does raise some interesting moral questions. Is he a bad person because he didn't stay and fight, and most likely die, or is he a good father because he escaped and was able to get back to his children?

When his wife infects him, with a kiss no less, the fact that she immediately has her head bashed in, is not only an effect of the virus, but also symbolic of their fractured relationship and the feelings of resentment of being left to die by her husband. He left her to die, now she is going to get back at him(ahhh marriage).

You could almost view Carlyle's character as an extension of the wife's wrath since she essentially is willing to kill the rest of her family by infecting him. Once he is infected it is only fitting that their children end up being threatened and attacked by their father, as it is because of their parent's differences of opinion that ultimately lead to the infection breaking out again, and their imminent demise.

Admittedly, none of this is done very subtlely, but who cares, it adds depth to what could've have been just another zombie flick, and, personally, I like it.

This is great news. Loved 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

Yeah, "dumb as a box of rocks" is a little extreme. 28 WEEKS LATER has some things on it's mind. Whether you think it's well executed is one thing (I feel that Carlyle tracking the kids to the subway really strains credulity, for example) but it's way smarter than you're average zombie movie.
