DARREN ARONOFSKY IS SO CLOSE TO WOLVERINE, HE CAN SHAVE HIM

It's all about the money, apparently.

For some reason, I've suddenly become interested in seeing such a "for them" movie made by Aronofsky. He hasn't taken 'that step' at all yet and now I wanna see it.

I'd rather have him taking on personal projects creatively stimulating for him, but if he's gotta do it...

I was actually really interested in him taking on an episode of LOST a few years ago despite the fact that it would've likely been just another episode.

Elisabeth Rappe, I just hope that, Darren Aronofsky, is a good enough director, that...Wolverine 2 can truly be an...X-Cellent film. I have yet to see one of Aronofsky's films, but I would make an...X-Ception for Wolverine!

Good enough, duke? It remains to be seen, my captain... it remains to be seen...

If somehow, this turned into a Guillermo del Toro/Blade 2 situation, where the franchise has already been established and a smart and gifted auteur can just unleash his id with every crazy idea he can come up with... hell yeah, I could be up for it.

But this is Fox.
Meh. I'm still smarting over him losing Supes to Snyder.

Hopefully it's cool though.
Ok, Darren. Get your Blade 2 out of your system. You've earned my dollars, despite the first Wolverine movie being about as interesting as watching my toenails grow.

Edit: Doc Phibes and I had the same analogy.

Jeez, I dunno if Aronosfsky can live up to towering giants like Gavin Hood and Brett Ratner.
Also, i can't imagine anyone better suited for telling Fox to take a flying fuck at the moon if they try to interfere.

Isn't it more a case of him lowering himself to the level of ditch squatting while sticking berries up his nose?

Hell, at this point, if this really is the very definition of a 'for them' feature and the guys finally gonna get a big payday, how the hell can I begrudge Aronofsky that? If anyone's fucking earned one from their oeuvre up to this point it's him.

...and on top of that if he can finally get a passion project or two off the ground as a consequence, then that's more than fair.

I've seen most of Aronofsky's movies and liked them, so I wouldn't mind seeing him make a Wolverine movie. I just hope Wolverine doesn't go ass-to-ass with anyone.
He's already gone back to back with somebody. Almost the same thing.

Damn, you beat me to that.

On one hand, it's Aronofsky. On the other hand, God this is such uninteresting territory for him. But on the other hand, it's Aronofsky.

God I hope this doesn't happen. Aronofsky is one of my faves, and I really don't want him to go down this road.

If this opens up gold-plated doors full of finance for future projects, I'm behind what Mr. Aronofsky wants to do.

And I fucking hated the first Wolverine. So it's really difficult for me to say that.
I must say Fox seems to really want their X-Franchise to be the best it can be.

With the awfulness of Wolverine and the averageness of X3, I am really excited to see Fox actively bringing in quality filmmakers to rebound these movies.

I still more eagerly await Matthew Vaughan's First Class, this puts Wolverine 2 back on my high anticipation list.

i still say this is beneath him, but if you gotta do one for them to get your dream projects made, i suppose it could be worse.

It could be a shitload worse - we could never see his dream projects.

Well, I guess he must have an interesting take on where to take the sequel if he's willing to make a movie that has a bunch of baggage since the first one was shit on by pretty much everybody. The guy is one of my favorite directors, but I can't help but feel skeptical about him taking this project -- he'll make a great story if he gets the character, but he hasn't done anything that indicates that he can shoot an action scene (then again, he's proven that he knows how to bounce genres). Like it was said earlier in the thread, though: if he's ready to do a paycheck gig to continue his passion projects with proper financing, then so fucking be it!

The article mentions his Noah's Ark script. Is he still planning on doing a Jackie O movie with Weisz soon? I was under the impression that he was trying to make that movie next.

Doing Wolverine II is a win win situation. It seriously can't get worse than Wolverine I and it'll almost certainly make it's money back. Just avoid casting a Black Eyed Pea, see the box office disasters of Poseidon, Nine and Street Fighter as reference.
I wonder if the backlash from the first Wolverine film* might cause pt. II to bomb badly in spite of any Aronofsky genius. If his big budget one-for-them crashes and burns we still wont see his dream one-for-me projects

*even though it made like a bazillion dollars worldwide, did anyone but Duke Fleed actually like the flick

It's weird, in all this "What's Aronofsky going to do next?" the Jackie O project hasn't been mentioned since he optioned it in April. "The Tiger" has at least come back up.

I hope he's scrapped the Jackie O project. Who wants to tread over something Katie Holmes did first?

If it does happen, can't wait to see what the rating's going to be. Gratuitous violence wouldn't have saved the first movie by a long shot, but if the game is any indication, it certainly would have helped. At this point though, the character seems so neutered they if they did let him go nuts with the gore it would just seem bizarre. I hate to say it, but I'd be a lot more interested if this was a straight up reboot rather than attempting to salvage a version of the character who's damaged goods.

The Wrestler buys a lot of faith though.

X-Men Origins Wolverine was an...X-Cellent Superhero film. Sure, it did not approach the greatness of any of the stories written by either Chris Claremont, Peter David, or Frank Miller Wolverine comics, but it was...X-Citing from beginning to end. I hope that...The Silver Samurai is in, Wolverine 2. That would be more interesting to me, than if, Darren Aronofsky directs. If he is the director, I hope he hits it out of the park, so that there will be more...Wolverine Films.

This is pretty much the least likely movie news I ever imagined I'd hear. It's also among the worst movie news I've ever heard in years. I'm not going to rant at length here, but let me just say that I'm not against Aronofsky taking a studio gig on principal*, but the idea of him wasting his time on a terrible series that's long in the tooth and riddled with established continuity he'd have to conform to? It's abhorent, and I can't imagine why he'd settle on fucking WOLVERINE after waiting 15 odd years to make a big budget movie.

For all the comparisons to "BLADE 2" being bandied about in this thread, let's not forget for one moment that BLADE 2 was the sequel to BLADE, a damn fun movie with an interesting universe and characters. I liked WOLVERINE maybe six or seven years ago, but these days the whole thing is nothing but a crass joke IMHO and to have Aronofsky picking up the story from where Gavin Hood left off makes my head hurt

And FOX has screwed over the likes of Sir Ridley Scott before, what chance does Aronofsky have to hammer out a unique take on X MEN? It's a fools errand, and I thought he'd have been too smart to get ensnared in their BS

* Though I'd been hoping beyond hope that the 'for them' project would end up being ROBOCOP

EDIT: Mr Fleed: not trying to insult Wolverine or XMEN, I just don't like the recent films and don't want this director involved with the series, that's all. Nothing personal!
Princess Kate, Well, I will not take it as an insult about you're wanting Darren Aronofsky to direct...Wolverine 2, if...You do not act all insulted, that I would only...See A Darren Aronofsky, film, if he was directing...Wolverine 2, or another property I like already.

I'm not actually sure the first Blade holds up that well anymore. I mean, granted its fun and has some enjoyable performances, and is heads and shoulder about Wolverine, but it really falls apart fast in the third act.
Billy Youngblood, To each ones own, but I think...Blade, Kicks-Ass! The...3rd act has, tons of action, so I do not undestand why anyone would be let down by it. Blade Vs Frost was...Awesome! Blade entering Frost's HQ with his...Supercycle, was...Epic! Blade, getting...Defanged, before, his gal pal, allowed him to take some of her blood to save them both was...Awe-Inspiring, and Awesome!

Fleed, you seriously make life worth living.
