OK Cupid stats: Gay Sex vs. Straight Sex

I <3 the OK Cupid stats team. I've already posted about their really informative piece on interracial dating. Now they are tackling sexual orientation.

Most people will not be surprised to learn that gays do not go trolling for straights, are not any more promiscuous than straights, and many straights are "gaycurious".

So you're telling me gay people are just like other people?

Oregon is all about gay-curious. Can't get enough gay curious.

And I had no idea Imogen Heap was such a gay icon.

Love that Asheville shows up in that article when talking about "pockets of gay-curious"

Fucking Utah.

Against gay Californians getting married.

Were you surprised? Asheville is an artsy college town surrounded by the Appalachian mountains. The gay-curious is this pocket of the world* are shamed and bible beaten by the locals and go to college towns to figure it out. The only place to find a larger contingent of gay-curious would have to be Atlanta. The community is still small here in Knoxville. In fact, the Metropulse just had an article talking about it this week.

*I say this as a man who went to ETSU and visited Appy State and UNC-Asheville for concerts and expensive items to be had with a lesser sales tax.

Gay people are not sexually interested in straights.
Not that this is representative in any way whatsoever but I do have a gay friend who does indeed like to bed the egregiously hetero-posturing straights he runs across.

Based on the M.O. behind getting the youthful hetero-posturing frat boys into the sack, plenty of alcohol, not too much time investment and some secrecy, I would think that online wouldn't be conducive to that kind of hook-up. The online dating world seems to invest time into getting to know someone before meeting.

Match.com says you are wrong. And your friend sounds like a creep.

He's not a creep. They proposition him.

Article sigged. It's too good.

Thanks for the link, Diva.

I'm actually kind of surprised that gay men as a whole don't have more sexual partners than straight men.

Why?

The subtext to a lot of homophobic thinking is the idea that gays will try to get straight people into bed at the first opportunity, or that gays are looking to "convert" straights. Freud called this concept schwanzangst; the U.S. Army calls it Don't Ask Don't Tell.
That's more than a bit off the mark, no? I was always under the impression that Don't Ask Don't Tell is more about keeping homophobia fueled fights, aggression, pestering, etc. out of the way, or at least quietly simmering underneath?

I've never once heard of Don't Ask Don't Tell referred to as a way to "keep the gays from recruiting straights." Admittedly, I'm no scholar on the subject though.

I read your post as him taking glee in getting drunk frat boys to experiment with him. My bad.

I dunno, maybe it's just the people I hang around.

What I learned from this: straight people as a whole like Burn Notice more than Breaking Bad.

Okcupid's studies are generally pretty silly, but it's difficult for me to hate seeing as using the site has resulted has resulted in a wave of fucking for me from a very lovely girl. Yes, this thread gave me a reason to brag.

Interesting, I've never been a member of the OKC thing (online dating is not any easier than RL dating, IMHO), but good to know that they're assisting in disproving old myths about gay people. Some of those other stats are also rather interesting

Nah, it isn't a glee thing(nor a Glee thing...sorry, he would get a kick out of that) where he then holds it over their head or anything, thus possibly putting himself in some kind of danger.

But he does have a "type" and that type is the repressed heteros that overcompensate. He will actively hang around and be playful but hardly ever initiates. Most would just call them bi-curious and he doesn't mind satisfying their curiosity.
