First scare in a year has shut down major studios.

This is the saddest news I've read in a long time.

Sure, Scruff.
Condoms are mandatory in porn done in some places outside USA.

That it's Vivid and Wicked means this is a huge deal. I for one look forward to the anti-sex misogyny soon to come in this thread.
I like to imagine word coming down onset and production halts for about five minutes, at which point the talent succumbs to the awkward lull by having a beer, blowing a few rails and plowing each other anyway without the cameras on.

All of this sans-condom, of course.

ETA: I know they quarantine and test "all exposed partners," but I wonder how long they keep up that routine? Because HIV is something that can lay dormant for a while, no? Do they have to suspend work for some amount of time?

Also, what of the "lesser" production companies? I'm curious if any of them just say "fuck it" in these situations and just keep plowing ahead (so to speak). (Bad puns aside, that's a serious question)

If all those sluts didn't have to flaunt it in front of the camera something something bitter not getting laid I give up sorry y'all

Now someone's going to come in and tell me to give them a break and that the internet misogyny brigade is A) overblown, or B) doesn't exist

What happens when somebody DOES test positive, though?

Is that person laid off with severance?*

Is there some kind of protection for the worker or does the industry operate on a "You knew this might happen... now, pack your bags and frak off." type of deal?

*It's too easy... don't do it... I know you want to.

I love all these cries of "make them wear condoms to protect the general public! My god, people! Think of the public!"

I mean, what, is the fairly well-tested and responsible porn industry just brewing up fresh batches of AIDS to unleash on us, the poor, unwitting general public?

"You got a TON of pussy. What's the problem again? Kids these days, jesus christ" - some producer

I...but...it's right there, Ray!

IF I WATCHED PORN (ok, ok, who am I kidding, I watch porn all the fucking time) I'd say this was really awful news, but as long as Brazzaers and Mofos were still operating then my wank material would still be well supplied, NOT THAT I DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT OR ANYTHING.

Not a lot of coke in the industry anymore. Lot of bong hits, though.

Well, hey! Good on them then for classing the place up a bit (and healthy, too!). So just replace that then and my poor comedy/fantasy is good to go.

I have to imagine with all the non-scientific speculation I can muster, that even if they did institute a mandatory condom policy, you're still going to have this happen every so often. And it seems that "no outbreaks or positive tests" is the ONLY result some of these nay-sayers will accept.

I'm certainly not saying that mandatory condoms is a bad thing because, well, how the hell could I?

I think it'd be interesting to track where money comes from WRT HIV cure research...

I'd LIKE to imagine that a big chunk of the porn industry's revenue gets funneled (discreetly, of course) into public and private HIV research.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill vocal minority blah blah unreasonable defensiveness am I doing this right?
Really though, I mean we all know it was the gay porn industry that let this shit in the door, right? Right? I'm looking at you, Peter North. Traitor*.

*alternate: SPLITTER!!!

I just hope they test everyone thoroughly. Cause, for me, as a viewer/voyeur, open sores are a real mood-killer.

All health-of-the-professionals concerns aside, I think it's funny anyone would be upset that there may not be any new porn coming down the pike for a while, as though they've managed to see all the porn already made and, dammit, they need some strange.
I wonder if they keep wrapped material archived JUST for situations like this...

DAYS upon DAYS of unreleased video just waiting to go into post-production JUST IN CASE there's a work stoppage for whatever reason.

Porn probably has a massive backlog of unfinished fucking.
Hmm...

I wonder if this means that the hilarious asshole who runs NextDoorAmateur.com will have to stop making his frustrating creampie videos.

Something tells me he doesn't give a fuck.

I love that NickPee's film queue is now informing main page articles. His wife will be so proud/pissed. Yes, pun intended.

*EDIT* And the thoughts brought up that this is like the writer's strike... I can only imagine "writer's strike"/HIV work stoppage quality porn and how lousy the acting would be.
Thankfully, the porn I watch doesn't involve any sort of penetration, so this won't effect me at all.
Yikes, scary stuff, hope the best for everyone involved. I have a friend who had an HIV scare and from what I understand it's terrifying and can totally upend your life and emotional state, so with that in mind it must be tough to work in an industry that requires you have unprotected intercourse with others and just trust in your company's policies and practices. At my job, the greatest hazard I face is paper cuts

Looks like the people who can stop the porn industry is not Christians or radical feminists but the porn industry themselves. Of course, they could start doing CGI pornos, lol!

Start? Late pass.
I only watch 70's porn, so this doesn't effect me.

Haha. Yeah, I have a similar opinion of guys that keep gigs of porn cataloged on external hard-drives. As if it's good to have a backup supply, because you never know when you're going to wake up one day and all... of the porn... on the internet... will be... GONE!
You just gave me an idea for a movie. In a world without porn; one man has the Best of Marylin Chambers. It would be like The Book of Eli, with money shots.
How does this affect nazi rape orgy erotica? People need to know!

A well respected and highly intelligent doctor once theorized that if this happened, there would only be one website left, and it would be called "Bring Back The Porn."

Ha! It would either be that or a website run by a Chinese or Russian college student called, "For 10 Billion Dollars I Will Turn The Porn Back On". Greg, we need to co-write the script to this thriller. Nic Cage or Clive Owen to star.

I subscribe to Doctor Percival Cox' news letter as well. Insightful man. His published essays on the merits of Hugh Jackman are a tad egregious though.

Do we not remember the South Park Prophecies. Book 12, Chapter 6? Randy Marsh will die if this happens.

Great!

If porn is gone from the internet, that would mean a return to...magazines???
