SPIDER-MAN WILL BE FACING DOWN THE LIZARD - Page 2

Lizard was a favorite of mine as a child. I don't even care if they go with the more modern versions of him where he is more 'lizardy'. I just hope he stays looking like a lizard for the climax. Morphing back and forth so the actor can spout dreary one liners was possibly the worst element of Venom.

What is it with purple pants in the Marvel Universe? And when will the movie universe embrace it?!

p.s. In 'Godzilla 2000' and 'Godzilla vs Megaguirus' he was a dark green. Nix on all of yee!

QFT,

Molina was probably most recognized for his prologue in RAIDERS (by the masses, FRIDA for the cineasts) and "the retard from Wings" wasn't gonna bring in the crowds. Great casting, but not for name recog.

I can't believe you guys have all forgotten the wave of Molina Fever that hit the states in the early oughts. Molina Molina Molina. That's all anyone could talk about.

TEAM ALF shirts were all the rage.

It's unfortunate that SONY dragged their feet on Dr Lizard all through Raimi's time on the franchise, and now chooses him once Rami has left..

I'm really surprised there's even any debate about this. One guy's been on the radar for ages and the other's kinda been on the (geek) radar for the last few years. Big difference.

I never said anything close to "Molina is a movie star." The discussion's about which actor was higher profile, Molina or Baker (it's the former.) The status of the actor playing the antagonist in a summer tentpole is also hardly a "moot point" since it's the reason someone like Ifans - not Baker - is cast and why we're even having this discussion in the first place.

Yes, but Raimi was clearly casting for suitability, and didn't care at all for fame. If he did, he would have gone for somebody much higher profile than Molina or Baker.

See Schumacher's Batman movies for examples.

Molina has his three minutes in RAIDERS over Baker. That's it. Seriously, go compare IMDb pages - Baker's been all over TV and smaller films since the early 90s. ANd there's no way that Raimi would have recast him had he stayed on and used the Lizard.

When did Raimi not cast for suitability during his run on that franchise?

Molina wasn't the only actor age and look appropriate for that part. Obviously, there aren't many "movie stars" his age and build so there's more to it than that.

That's going a bit far.

I don't need to, 'cos I already know they've both worked a lot (I mentioned it already.)

Yeah, Raimi would've probably wanted to use him again, but I was just talking about who was a higher profile actor at the time of their casting. It's no coincidence Willem Dafoe was picked for the first movie.

To be fair, Myers87 called this a couple years ago. Even though he got the date wrong, he still owns us all.

I like how casual the Lizard appears in Myers's poster. He's just hanging out on the corner.

He's staring off into space, pensively, considering what his tragic life has become, completely unaware of the painful Spidey-boot to the Lizard-head he's about to receive. The poor guy just wanted to take notes on a sunny day in the Big Apple. As Phil noted, the first victim/villain in the Spideyverse...

Thanks Litmus, I searched the myers thread for that very poster the other day and couldn't find it to save my life. So very, very awesome.

It kind of makes Spider-Man look like the villain, terrorizing innocent, scholarly lizard-men from behind.
