I had that toy pictured in the article when I was a kid. Its fist shot off (for some reason). It was awesome.

Man, what film ISN'T GDT attached to at some point?

As much as I love GDT and would watch the shit out of anything he made, a full on giant monster movie doesn't exactly sound like his gig. I mean he's done plenty of monsters, but usually those monsters had some humanity in them. Giant monsters ain't interested in if they'll be accepted into polite society. That said, I'd still sort of celebrate him doing a big G film.

I could be in for this. The creature designs would be fantastic, the movie would look beautiful, the characters would be worth a damn, it would have a sensical plot, and be thematically cogent.

I didn't want to be the first person to say it, so I'm glad you did haha, but this is pretty much exactly how I feel. Of course I'm excited on one level because Del Toro is awesome and he's one of us and he's probably a fan to some extent, but if I'm going to get all g-fan nitpicky, his usual tone and style just aren't quite right for Godzilla, in my eyes. Even his monster designs, as awesome as they are, somehow strike me as not quite right for Godzilla.

Then again, I don't know who I'd offer up as a better choice and it's maybe selling GDT's talents short to act like he couldn't find a balance between his personal style and Godzilla. And I know that no matter who they get to make it this isn't going to be a 60s Toho film so maybe I'm being too much of a narrow-minded purist, and should just he happy there's even a chance somebody this talented might be involved. I guess I'm still heavily scarred from the Tri-Star version (especially since it came out at the height of my adolescent obsession with Godzilla, and was thus a crushing disappointment)

Also, not to be a dick, but the mere fact that there's going to be a new American Godzilla film is not news. It's been known for months, and even covered on CHUD.

And with that, At The Mountains Of Madness kicked some sand in the sandbox, picked up all its toys, and went home.

Nice going, James!
