Sorry, should have made it clear. They're getting off on a woman LOOKING miserable. Whether she genuinely is or not is another matter and I would never assume that there aren't any women who are into it.

I would however, make an educated guess that far more of them are doing it to get more work (I'm very familiar with the feeling of looking at your 'will do' list and thinking 'what boundaries can I push to get more business') than are doing it because they think it's hot. Would I do anything that made me miserable just to make money? No. But you know what would be presumptuous? Assuming that everyone in the industry has the luxury to be that picky.

EDIT: This was mainly in response to your bit about how certain pornstars do certain things and have do's and don'ts. If you need work and all you're getting offered is stuff that's outside your comfort zone, it can be very tempting to be flexible (and in the sex industry, whatever section of it we're talking about, being flexible with your boundaries isn't great for you mentally which is why I don't do it). Is gagging a thing, though? Like are there movies with that specific kink to them? I guess this is what I'm wondering. I know I've seen it, but I can't tell if that's the main purpose of the video, or the actress just happens to do that. It's almost like when I see actresses swearing in their movies. Are they doing it because that's just what they do, or they think that's what people want to see? Is there a demand for gagging?

I count oral 'gagging' (and we're all talking about Sasha Grey here, right?) as the porn equivalent of a 'signature move'. It's a specialty, one she's mastered, and she wouldn't do it if it didn't sell.

Sasha Grey porn is the kind of porn I mute, and not because of "abuse" or gagging or whatnot. She just not enticing to listen to. If I were one of those porn actors I'd be like "Errr could you just stop cursing so much? I'm trying to fuck the shit out of your fucking asshole here!"

Porn where women are made to look like shit is popular I think because most guys are jerks and can't get away with humiliating their girlfriends or wives(or realdolls) in the same manner, but sure wouldn't mind it if they could. Personally, not my thing, though mascara tears look neat.

But you really should watch The Girlfriend Experience. Not the easiest movie ever, even for Soderbergh in experimental mode, but she's surprisingly decent in it. She's even quite good in a couple of scenes. 

Is it just me, or has the term "MILF" lost all meaning these days as a video category/title key word? I'd say it is now synonymous with "starlet past her prime", only I've seen it so flagrantly used that age and/or child-bearing status doesn't even seem to come into the equation. I only say it out of observance, not due to any fetish. Nor because I want the presence of a kid's stroller just in frame for verification.

Woah...I didn't know it means past her prime now.  A dude called me a MILF the other day and while I wasn't flattered (it's sort of icky if you think about it) I didn't take it derogatorily.  Damn.  I would say Cougar has sort of changed meaning more to "past her prime and creepily staring at younguns who only want her for a sugar daddy and to teach them how to fuck properly for their age appropriate wife in 3 years".

I don't think we're talking 'real world' here, only the way the term has been co-opted in porn.

I was referring to "the industry" and how they have co-opted the term. It's kinda meaningless in that context. It's almost as if there are only 3 star ages. "Teen" (legal of course), "non descript", and "MILF" in mainstream materials. And I've seen "MILF" applied to women who look college age to me.

 

You can feel as flattered or icky as you like. It's "complimentary" still IRL.
