I got a bit excited when I went to IMDB and saw Noah Baumbach's name attached to this, then I saw that the writers of ACCEPTED and NEW YORK MINUTE were as well.

I'm beginning to think that any part in upcoming feature comedies that could conceivably be seen as helping Murphy 'return to his roots' and give him an opportunity to give us that spark he had as a younger man should all be offered to Donald Glover from this point forward.

That Murphy is gone, he aint coming back.

This is likely right, but I still can't help but hope a bit. An ensemble piece wherein he gives a major supporting role seems to be a better, safer route for this to happen, though, than his starring role (compare DREAMGIRLS with DADDY DAY CARE).

I wish this news could excite me, but the sad fact of the matter is that Eddie Murphy has never not been horrible in my lifetime. Bowfinger is kind of rad, I guess, but I can't pretend that his work in that film was so awesome as to make me a member of his fan club. I've seen clips from RAW, and while it wasn't for me, at least it was "edgy". These days he's blander than EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. Mr Murphy has been in kiddie flick land for so long that it's readily apparent he no longer cares about his work. IMHO, if he doesn't care why should I?

If he's as talented as everyone says he is though, maybe he'll do something special here and give me the first reason to care about him I've ever had (sorry, not a fan of any of his fat suit movies, just not for me)

That's the outcome I'm hoping for

PS Shrek is so far off my radar that I don't even hold it against him
