GET A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE TEASER FOR 'PAUL'

It has a very "Spaced: The Movie" vibe, more so than any of the other flicks they have done.

And that is not a bad thing.

Squeeeeee!

I don't care if it's good or bad. I will like it anyway.

Grinning like a gigantic idiot over here.

Looks like a fun ride. I'm liking the appearance of Paul (CGI notwithstanding) and the chemistry between Pegg and Frost seems to be as strong as ever. Plus, that's a pretty fine supporting cast.

I'm getting some nasty flashbacks to Blarp from Lost In Space from Paul. I still love me some Pegg and Frost though, so my fingers are still crossed for this.

And how!

Very rarely do trailers make me laugh, but the site of Paul doing his wee dance and that cowboy line at the end did it for me.

Granted, I did just watch The Long Kiss Goodnight but Simon Pegg has a serious hint of David Morse about him in this.

Giddy with excitement over this. Frost and Pegg together is always a good thing. It does quite feel like the Spaced movie, in the best way possible.

Love Frost laughing and falling over backwards at the sight of Paul.

And once again we have Pegg, along with an amazing cast, in a movie that looks otherwise kind of shitty. Is there any internal logic for why an alien is named Paul and acts like Seth Rogen?
He looks/sounds like Roger from American Dad.

My thought exactly.

Looking forward to this big time. Hope it delivers. Love the "gay couple with costumed ET" homage at the end.

CHUD *is* glorious, Ms Rappe, and I for one am glad that it's endeavoring to keep me informed about this Pegg movie.

The still of the alien included in the article looked CGI, but a higher grade CGI than I'd anticipated.

Looks like fun but the Roger from American Dad resemblance is uncanny, it'll still be funnier than that though.

The rest of the cast has got me more excited.

Phew, I thought I was the only one here who didn't so much as crack a smile during that trailer. I love Pegg/Frost, but this looks like shit.

I didn't either. I even watched the trailer several times just to be sure I wasn't missing anything (everyone else seemed so delighted!!!) but I wasn't - that trailer just straight sucked IMHO. It just felt completely "off" and awkward, like they were trying to avoid showing Pegg and Frost conversing with one another any more than was absolutely necessary.

You think he arrived from space with that name? Really? Even without knowing anything about the story aside from this trailer, you think that the plot will eventually be that the alien's proper and formal name is going to be "Paul" outright?

Pegg and Frost have lots of good will from me to make another great comedy, but this teaser left me blank-faced as well. Didn't laugh or smile once. The teaser is cut together like 99.9% of lame trailers for lame comedies. If it wasn't Pegg and Frost starring, I wouldn't have given the movie a single thought.

But... it's just a teaser, letting audiences know the basic premise, who's in the movie, and what Paul looks like. I wasn't expecting to see much this early, so I'm not worried. Pegg said on Twitter that this teaser is just a taste, leaving most of the good stuff secret for now.

So, unimpressed but hopeful and open-minded.

Remember guys, many of us would be pissed off and complaining if the teaser gave too much of the funny away.

Drew from HitFix says that one of the reasons there's not a lot of dialogue in the teaser is that this is a very hard R film. Which isn't a vibe I think the teaser portrays real well.
Oh, that makes sense. I laughed at the final line and when Frost fell over. Hard R could make this alot of fun.

Didn't think this was worth making a new thread over, since it won't be out for a while, but I was at an audience test screening last night. For the people unimpressed with the trailer: don't worry, the movie itself is hilarious. And the comparisons to Spaced are pretty much right on.

That's a relief.

Universal marketing strikes again. By the time they were done "selling" SCOTT PILGRIM, several people I know were refusing to go see it for free. Most of those people eventually were persuaded to see it and loved it, but all of them were initially repelled by the marketing. This PAUL teaser feels like the trailer for a terrible movie that's trying to hide its terribleness any way it can.

Oh, definitely - but if they can't give us a teaser's worth of funny without spoiling all the jokes in the film, then horrible teasers are the least of their worries. Thankfully it seems like that may not be the case. Not like bad marketing from a Hollywood studio is anything out of the ordinary.
