Christmas Horror

Searched high and low for something on this genre but nothing came up.
I want to know what your favorites are and why. So far I am only familiar with Black Christmas and Christmas Evil. I'm fond of both but are there any others worth watching?

For me, it begins and ends with Gremlins. Take the little town, Bedford Falls, from It's a Wonderful Life, add little green monsters, and Voila! Perfect Christmas mayhem.

Silent Night, Deadly Night is the most infamous and an underrated slasher film. Don't Open Till Christmas is a Brit slasher goofy as fuck and tremendous fun. How you searched high and low and didn't find the former is a mystery to me. Seek them out.

Where did you search "high and low"? I searched "Google" and found about a dozen options (including Gremlins) in about as many seconds.

Also, check out (I think) the second episode of Tales From the Crypt. The episode is called "And All Through the House". It's tons of fun and features Dr. Giggles himself as an escaped mental patient masquerading as Santa Claus. It's light on plot, but heavy on fun.

I'm sure Arjen or Rippoll's write-up is floating around the Sewer somewhere.

Gremlins is such an obvious choice that I probably overlooked it, but it's still a good one.

On the CHUD forums, specifically. Should have mentioned that, sorry.

Funny you mention this. I just watched the original 1972 Tales From the Crypt film. If I'm not mistaken, the crazed Santa Claus bit from that film inspired Zemeckis to take a stab at if for the HBO series. Hopefully it's better than the 1972 version which showed the most promise of the entire anthology before being inexcusably truncated.

It's no GREMLINS (what is really), but:

Rapist Nazi ELVES! vs Grizzly Adams...

That's correct. And here's Arjen's write-up.

The opening scene to SANTA'S SLAY is fantastic. Then turn it off (I believe it is on Netflix Instant Watch).

My personal favorite xmas Slasher flick is YOU BETTER WATCH OUT (aka CHRISTMAS EVIL).

Silent Night, Deadly Night is great for a handful of reasons, my personal favorite being "crazy old grandpa".

Psycho is set during the holidays.

Even though I'm it's sole defender, I think the Black Christmas remake is worth mentioning because what makes it so great is how well it utilizes the Christmas setting. From the inherent spookiness of Christmas music to the over-the-top color scheme, inspired by Christmas lights, it uses the setting well.

I always thought BM:R had a nice mixture of gothic horror and Christmas cheer

I believe this qualifies, although I haven't had the guts to watch it yet.

Rare Exports looks like a lot of fun.

Another angle to consider is if you want to include films that are in a winter setting. There's nothing like being snowed in from the world and throwing in John Carpenter's The Thing, The Shining, Curtains, or any number of winter-themed horror fare. I combine my winter horror films (and there are a ton) with my Xmas ones and it makes for a pretty fun viewing schedule.

Where are all the Hanukkah and Kwanzaa themed horror flicks???

For Easter there's:
KOTTENTAIL
PETER ROTTENTAIL
EASTER BUNNY KILL! KILL!
CRITTERS 2

JESUS CHRIST VAMPIRE HUNTER

SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (1974), which seems to have influenced BLACK CHRISTMAS.

Really?
You've perked my interest. I thought, for sure, it was dead on arrival.

Most people (including those who saw it) feel the same way, sadly, so fair warning. I'm gonna have to write a detailed point-by-point defense of that movie one day, so the whole world can see what I see.

Sheitan is a wonderful French horror flick set during the holidays. Worth viewing for Vincent Cassel's nutjob turn as the weirdo groundskeeper (as well as a rapist Santa who gets bitten by a vampire Monica Belluci).

P2 falls in the Christmas horror genre. It's not good, though.
